What is Theos: Cities of Myth?

Theos: Cities of Myth is a strategic city-building simulation from Triskell Interactive, the studio behind Pharaoh: A New Era, with Dotemu as publisher. Rather than being a purely historical reconstruction, the game combines a reinterpreted ancient Greece with mythology: each polis is dedicated to one of seven Olympian deities, whose wishes, blessings and heroes help shape the city's development.

At its core, the game is about building a functioning metropolis with residential districts, roads, markets, production and storage chains, cultural buildings and temples. Beyond that, Theos extends the classic city-builder framework with colonies, trade between city-states, diplomacy, military conflicts and mythological quest lines.

Gameplay

Theos deliberately draws on classic city-building games: roads determine the paths residents take, production and storage chains supply residential districts, and markets, philosophy schools, theaters and temples must be sensibly integrated into the city layout. Triskell promises modernized tools at the same time, and more direct control over which routes moving units take through the city.

Economic building goes beyond your own polis. Colonies open up additional resources and trade routes. Neighboring city-states develop their own interests, so alliances, trade, competition for raw materials or military clashes are all part of the same strategic layer.

Gods, sanctuaries and blessings

Every city begins with the sanctuary of its chosen deity. Seven Olympian gods shape different paths of development: Athena favors culture and olive production, for example, Ares military strength and Hermes trade. Those who meet the requirements and expand temples unlock blessings, special buildings, and legendary heroes and historical figures.

The deity is therefore not a cosmetic starting bonus but a lasting system that affects the economy, city planning and conflicts, and is meant to encourage different specializations for a polis.

Colonies, diplomacy and real-time battles

The strategic map doesn't end at the city limits. Players can found colonies, open up new trade routes and respond to other Greek city-states. These neighbors also develop and influence the regional balance of power.

Conflicts can be resolved economically or diplomatically, but they can also lead to military clashes. Dotemu describes real-time battles in which armies can be deployed for defense or rival colonies can be conquered.
