Unicorn Academy: Island of Magic

Unicorn Academy: Island of Magic is a single-player adventure set in the fantasy world of Unicorn Academy. Instead of taking on only a familiar character, players create their own first-year student and their unicorn. On Unicorn Island, the focus is on exploring the academy, caring for the unicorn and puzzles involving elemental magic. The story connects the new main character with Sophia, Ava, Layla and other characters from the original, while Ravenzella tries to bring the island under her control.

The game is being developed by Aesir Interactive in Munich. Mindscape is publishing it in collaboration with rights holder Spin Master.

Mindscape announces Nov 17, 2026 as the release date for PC and consoles. PlayStation currently lists the game with a release month of November, while the German Steam store gives Nov 16 instead. The details are therefore not exactly identical everywhere. Both dates are still in the future.

The official gameplay presentation was shown in September 2026. It already showed character customization, unicorn care, exploration and magic before the planned market launch. No reliable information about a demo or early access start is available in the product announcements consulted.

The game is announced for Windows PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Sony explicitly lists separate PS4 and PS5 versions. The Microsoft Store also names Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as supported consoles, rather than only mentioning backward compatibility.

The Nintendo version is announced as a Switch game. A standalone native Nintendo Switch 2 version cannot be inferred from the publisher list. On PC, Windows is listed, and the Steam store page does not yet show a reliable standalone Linux release.

The adventure links several activities into one shared progression. Players explore locations on Unicorn Island, take on quests and use their unicorn's abilities to overcome obstacles and puzzles. In between, there is care, playing together and racing with the animal. The growing bond is meant to unlock further quirks and powers of the unicorn.

Mindscape is not presenting a classic horse riding simulator, but a story-driven adventure with riding and care elements. The familiar series characters play an active role, because players can switch between the self-created character and members of the Sapphires.

The preliminary minimum requirements on Steam list Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD Phenom II X6 1035T, 4 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 660, DirectX 11 and 8 GB free storage. Recommended is Windows 11, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon HD 7950, and DirectX 12. For the recommended CPU, the store lists Intel Core i5-4430 or AMD FX-4350.

Players create their own first-year student for Unicorn Academy. Hairstyles, clothing and the unicorn's appearance can be customized. This makes the new character the centre of exploration, without the familiar heroines and heroes of the original disappearing.

The publisher has not yet said exactly how many outfits or hairstyles are available to choose from. A complete editor scope therefore cannot be reliably quantified before release.

The connection to your own unicorn is a recurring game mechanic. Players care for the animal, spend time with it and take part in races. According to Mindscape, its powers, abilities and special traits become visible or accessible as the bond grows.

This gives the bond with your companion a role in game progress. Exact care intervals, stamina values and a breeding system have not yet been officially described. Such systems cannot reliably be inferred from the published trailers.

The unicorns' magical powers are used to overcome obstacles on Unicorn Island and to complete tasks. Your own animal is not the only thing that matters: the official descriptions allow switching to series characters and therefore using different unicorn abilities.

The puzzles are therefore part of the exploration and sit alongside caring for your unicorn. The publisher has not yet officially stated how many types of magic or skill levels the full version offers.

The adventure takes place across Unicorn Island and through the rooms and surroundings of the academy. Mindscape describes the island as an open game world with hidden paths, tasks and mini-games. While exploring, the unicorns' elemental powers are used to unlock new possibilities.

The publisher talks about an open world, but that does not yet confirm a specific map size or a seamless area without loading boundaries. Such technical details have not been explained so far. The game world is mainly announced as the setting for the story and encounters with familiar characters.

Sophia, Ava, Layla, Isabel, Valentina and Rory accompany the new student on her journey. According to the official descriptions, you can switch between the character you create and members of the Sapphires. Their unicorn abilities are used for different tasks.

The story revolves around Ravenzella's plans for Unicorn Island. The number of missions in the story has not yet been officially stated.

Steam and Microsoft describe the adventure as a single-player game. Switching between your own student and series characters therefore does not mean a shared multiplayer mode has been confirmed.

Steam lists achievements, cloud saves and subtitles. For PlayStation, Remote Play is listed, and on PS5 the vibration function of the DualSense controller. Such features are platform-specific and do not have to be identical in every version.

Steam lists 17 languages. German user interface and German subtitles are explicitly confirmed, but German voice acting is not. Full voice acting is listed for English dialogue. This means the German text version is already listed before the sales launch.

Language lists on console stores can differ from the PC version. Before buying, the language information for the specific platform version is therefore what matters.

The game is made by Munich studio Aesir Interactive. Mindscape handles publishing, while Spin Master contributes the underlying brand. Production is based on Unreal Engine and, according to official releases, is supported by German federal game funding.

The developers add their own main character to the familiar world of the books and animated series. This approach lets you interact with well-known characters without only replaying their stories.
