Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Moonspell

Legacy of the Moonspell is the first major expansion for Vampire Survivors. The Mt. Moonspell setting brings Japanese folklore into the roguelite: yokai and oni have taken over the homeland of an old warrior clan. A new map, additional playable characters and weapons expand the survival runs of the base game.

The DLC is not a standalone game. Vampire Survivors is needed to play it.

Legacy of the Moonspell was released on Dec 15, 2022 for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch version followed on Aug 17, 2023. The DLC came out for PS4 and PS5 on Aug 29, 2024, at the same time as Vampire Survivors.

In August 2026, the expansion received additional characters, weapons, music and lasting adjustments to existing characters.

The expansion is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. On each of these platforms, the matching version of Vampire Survivors is required. The PlayStation versions are separate releases for PS4 and PS5.

The base game is available on other devices. However, that alone does not mean there is a separate native DLC version for every platform.

On Mt. Moonspell, players survive ever-larger enemy hordes by upgrading their gear during a run. Weapons attack largely automatically. Movement, collecting experience crystals and choosing sensible combinations of weapons and gear are what matter.

The expansion does not change the basic rhythm, but new enemies, paths and weapon evolutions increase the number of possible strategies.

Legacy of the Moonspell launched with eight playable characters, 13 weapons including evolutions, the Mt. Moonspell map and six music tracks. A free 2026 content update added four more characters, five weapons and one music track. In total, this added twelve characters and 18 weapons or weapon evolutions.

The additional content appears inside Vampire Survivors and still requires the base game.

For the PC version, Steam lists Windows 10 64-bit, an x64 processor with SSE2, 1 GB RAM, DirectX-11 or DirectX-12-capable graphics and 2.5 GB free storage. On macOS, macOS 10.14 or later with suitable Intel or Apple silicon hardware is required.

The expansion uses the technical foundation of Vampire Survivors. German-language menus are supported on Steam.

Mt. Moonspell is a large map with several sub-areas. The route leads through snow-covered mountains, a village haunted by yokai and the surroundings of an abandoned castle. As a result, not only the scenery changes, but also the enemy lineups within the same survival run.

The story revolves around the escape and return of the Moonspell clan, whose homeland was overrun by demons.

Miang, Menya and Syuuto Moonspell, as well as Babi-Onna, are among the defining characters of the expansion. Their abilities and starting weapons lead to different combinations in fights against large enemy groups.

The 2026 content update added more characters, including Spiritoso, Spiritosa, Gekkojin and Megalo Miang Moonspell. This extended the selection beyond the original eight characters.

Silver Wind, Four Seasons, Summon Night and Mirage Robe are among the new weapons. They differ in areas such as directional attacks, area effects and moving projectiles. Their evolutions expand the options for controlling several enemy groups at once.

Five more weapons were added in 2026. Since then, Legacy of the Moonspell has included 18 new weapons and evolutions in total.

The expansion initially added six original music tracks. These include Legacy of the Moonspell, Festive Breeze, Rumble Kachara, Haze of Night, Hell Night and Crystal Allure. Sword of Moonlight was added with the 2026 content update.

The music picks up the Japanese-inspired locations and accompanies the increasingly chaotic survival runs.

Legacy of the Moonspell can be used with the multiplayer features of Vampire Survivors. The PlayStation Store lists one to four local players. On Steam, the DLC supports the features of the base game, including Remote Play Together.

Which shared save games and online features are available depends on the platform version.

In August 2026, Legacy of the Moonspell received four additional playable characters, five weapons and another music track. poncle also adjusted abilities of the original character roster. This expanded the 2022 expansion in content, even years after its launch.

The new content belongs to the existing expansion. An additional purchase is not required for it.
