What is WHAT THE GOLF??

WHAT THE GOLF? is a physics-based golf parody by Triband. Instead of ordinary balls, cars, animals and other objects land on the course. Many courses change the rules before the first shot is even taken.

The puzzles rely on surprising mechanics and absurd situations instead of realistic golf technique.

WHAT THE GOLF? is available for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, iOS and Apple Vision Pro. The iOS and visionOS versions use Apple Arcade, while on PC the game is offered through Steam and Epic Games Store, among others.

The Apple Vision Pro edition is its own spatial adaptation, not just an enlarged phone view.

Gameplay

The basic idea stays the same throughout the campaign: a character or object must reach a goal. Which object can be moved and which rules it follows changes from course to course.

Sometimes it's about hitting the right angle, sometimes the attempt turns into a short skill challenge. The solution often lies in deliberately questioning the supposed golf rules.

Campaign and courses

The campaign consists of a series of short, interconnected courses that keep reinventing the game's principles. The tasks range from simple trajectories to unusual obstacle courses and parodies of other genres.

Many challenges can be replayed later without any knowledge of real golf being required.

Party mode and playing together

On Nintendo Switch and PC, two people can compete against each other in local party mode. Both play at the same time and try to reach the flag before their opponent.

The Steam version also supports Remote Play Together. This lets another person join a local game over the internet. The mode is not available in the same form on all platform versions.

Additional episodes

WHAT THE GOLF? includes special episodes such as Sporty Sports, It's Snowtime!, A Hole New World and Among Golf. Each one adds its own items, tasks and jokes to the courses.

Released episodes stay in the game permanently and can be accessed via their own menu. Slime Time! adds more than 50 tasks set in a chaotic laboratory. Individual episodes don't necessarily launch at the same time on every platform.

Daily challenges

Alongside the campaign there are rotating daily courses and special themed events. These tasks use the same unusual physics but bring new conditions or goals.

The rotating courses are separate from the permanently available main game and the unlocked episodes.

Level editor on PC

The Steam edition includes an editor for custom courses. It lets you combine obstacles, movements and rules into your own golf parodies.

Which additional tools are available depends on the platform. The PC editor should not be equated with a feature of all console versions.

Controls

The individual courses build on simple directional and shot controls. The challenge lies mainly in working out what can actually be moved in each task.

On Nintendo Switch, selected courses use the touchscreen and motion sensors. The PlayStation 5 version supports features of the DualSense controller.
