What is When Sirens Fall Silent?

When Sirens Fall Silent is a narrative psychological thriller and detective game told from a first-person perspective. It is set in early 1990s Italy, especially around Rome. At its center is police officer Mila, who investigates a series of abductions and murders and is confronted with distressing events from her own past.

The game combines searching crime scenes, interpreting contradictory statements and making decisions in conversations. The Italian studio LKA develops the title, and Wired Productions handles the publishing. This is a planned, not yet released production; gameplay footage and developer descriptions shown so far are not independent reviews.

Gameplay

Investigation work is the core of the gameplay. Mila examines rooms and possible crime scenes, secures clues, compares information and returns to places already visited when new connections become visible. In addition, there are environmental puzzles, where observation and correctly linking clues are meant to matter more than quick reflexes.

In conversations, players choose between branching dialogue options and watch the reactions and body language of the people they question. LKA thus describes a stronger focus on active investigation than in its earlier works. The full scope of possible decisions and their consequences cannot yet be judged before release.

System requirements

For the PC version, Steam currently lists Windows 10/11 64-bit as the OS. Exact minimum and recommended specs for processor and graphics card are still listed there as to be confirmed. Neither firm hardware limits nor a confirmed Steam Deck rating can be derived from this.

Steam already lists single-player, controller support, achievements and Steam Cloud. These store features refer to the PC version. Statements on frame rate or resolution of the announced console versions have not yet been confirmed.

Clues and interrogations

Searching for clues is not just about individually collected objects. The developer promises crime scenes that can be re-examined once new information has been gained. Clues from different environments are meant to feed into a bigger picture of the murder and abduction cases.

In interrogations, wording, unspoken signals and facial expressions play a role. The branching dialogue approach is meant to affect Mila's conversations with witnesses and other people involved. How large the branches actually are and what effect they have on the ending is still open.

Story and sensitive content

The story combines a criminal case with Mila's personal past. According to official information, it deals with trauma, human trafficking, misogyny and moral responsibility, among other things. The publisher deliberately describes disturbing scenes. Steam therefore points out adult content, including depictions of violence and sexual trauma.

The locations are based on real Italian places. The studio uses Unreal Engine 5 and a dark, cinematic presentation. The trailers so far give insight into tone and characters, but not the full storyline.

The store's language list also includes French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. As the game is not yet released, individual language and feature details may change before launch.

Game series

When Sirens Fall Silent belongs to the narrative series Storie Senza Voce by LKA, which also includes The Town of Light and Martha Is Dead. The works share thematic and, according to the studio, also hidden content links. The new game is announced as a standalone psychological thriller, not as a numbered sequel.

Development and creative direction come from Luca Dalcò's studio LKA, which again works with Wired Productions as publisher. The setting in 1990s Italy continues the series' engagement with certain historical places and socially difficult themes.
