Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut is a spatial puzzle adventure in first person. You wake up in a huge white structure that is hurtling through space towards Earth. Your glowing special gloves can move red cubes to form steps, use blue blocks as jumping surfaces and change entire chambers by cleverly placing objects.
A mysterious story and ten time trials
The story, written by Rob Yescombe with English voice acting, expands the original Q.U.B.E. considerably. In addition to the physics-based puzzles and short dexterity sections, the Director’s Cut includes a new soundtrack and ten Against the Qlock time trials. Each challenge demands precise timing, a good route and efficient use of the cube mechanic.
A standalone game alongside Original and 10th Anniversary
The Director’s Cut is a standalone release from 2014. The technically revised Q.U.B.E. 10th Anniversary from 2022 is a different game with the additional Sector 8; Q.U.B.E. 2 is another standalone sequel. The console versions of this Director’s Cut are also single-player games.
Android version for NVIDIA SHIELD
The Android version was released in July 2015 for the NVIDIA SHIELD devices of the time and distributed by NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios. It was not a mobile port that could run on any smartphone: the original Google Play description required compatible SHIELD or Tegra hardware and a gamepad. The English-voiced story, the new soundtrack and the ten time trials were also part of the Android version.
No longer regularly available
The well-known Google Play package entry is com.NV.Trendy.QubeDC. According to documented store histories, the app was removed from Google Play on Aug 30, 2024. It is therefore a historical native Android release and not an Android game that can currently be bought regularly. The later PC and console remake 10th Anniversary should be distinguished from this SHIELD version.
