Maskmaker is a standalone VR fantasy adventure by InnerspaceVR and Vertigo Games. As an apprentice to a enigmatic mask maker, you enter Prospero’s workshop. There you discover that every carefully made mask is more than a costume: it can give you the eyes and the role of another figure and lead you to places you would otherwise not reach.
Craft masks and explore eight magical worlds
Across eight different biomes you gather materials, observe the inhabitants and craft matching masks from shapes, colours and decorations. You work the blanks with your virtual hands, learn ever more demanding techniques and put on the finished masks to slip into different characters. In this way you solve environmental puzzles and travel back and forth between the fantastic regions.
The story behind Prospero’s realm
The fairytale landscapes hide the story of a vanished master and his mysterious successor. The plot combines exploration, craftsmanship and small puzzles into a single-player adventure. A physical VR headset and its motion controllers are part of the game concept; there is no regular flat-screen mode.
Native standalone version for Meta Quest
The Meta Quest version was released on December 15, 2022, after Maskmaker had already been released for PC VR and PlayStation VR in 2021. Unlike the earlier Oculus Link use of the PC version, this version runs directly on compatible Quest headsets without needing a gaming PC. It is available on the official Meta Quest Store and supports German, English and French, among other languages. The publisher released its own official trailer for the launch of the Quest version.
