Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Nintendo DS is a standalone handheld version of the 2007 first-person shooter. Unlike the versions by Infinity Ward for PC and home consoles, the DS version was developed by the studio n-Space. The locations are based on the modern conflict of the main game, but the missions follow a perspective designed specifically for the handheld.
First-person shooter with a touch pen
The upper screen shows the combat from a first-person view. On the lower touchscreen, you aim with the stylus, switch weapons and use special functions. Among other things, you take on missions for the US Marines and the British SAS. Alongside firefights, the missions include defusing explosives, hacking computers and operations in vehicles and helicopters.
Local multiplayer for up to four players
Besides the single-player campaign, there are several multiplayer modes and seven custom maps to choose from. Up to four players can compete against each other in local matches on Nintendo DS. The official Nintendo product description also lists DS Download Play, in which several devices can take part with just one game card. The Nintendo DS version has no online mode shared with the PC or console multiplayer.
Release and highlights
Activision released the Nintendo DS game in Germany on November 9, 2007. A native PS3, PC or Xbox 360 copy cannot be used on Nintendo DS. This separate version is neither a Deluxe package nor a remaster; its own controls, campaign structure and multiplayer technology differ significantly from the home console versions.
