Max Payne for Game Boy Advance: Film noir from a bird’s-eye view
Max Payne also appeared as a standalone version for Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance. Möbius Entertainment rebuilt the dark story of a New York undercover detective hunted by police and the mafia for the handheld. The well-known comic cutscenes, many locations and parts of the voice acting are retained.
Isometric shootouts with Bullet Time
Instead of the PC game’s three-dimensional third-person view, you guide Max through two-dimensional isometric environments. You fight with pistols, submachine guns and other weapons through individual missions, and you can slow down time to avoid enemy hits. The controls and several levels were adapted for the smaller hardware; it is not a simple emulation of the PC or PlayStation 2 version.
Standalone handheld release
The GBA title was first released in North America in late 2003; the European version followed in March 2004. The German edition is rated 16+ by USK. The game was sold on cartridge, so there is no PC, Nintendo Switch or DS download key for it.
