Action RPG and kingdom builder in one
In Kingdom’s Return: Time-Eating Fruit and the Ancient Monster, the fantasy kingdom of Almacia lies in ruins. Together with the time fairy Chronos, an adventurer must revive the settlements. The game world combines side-scrolling 2D action with a building element: in dungeons you fight monsters and bosses, complete quests and collect building materials. Back in the realm, you construct buildings that improve your characters and enable new expeditions.
Four combat styles, two interlocking game systems
Imperial, Wizard, Alchemist and Zipangu each have their own skills, stats and attack patterns. In the kingdom, you switch between characters and decide how much time goes into expeditions or building. Even if you focus mostly on one of the two halves of the game, you can still finish the story. Pixel graphics, imaginative enemies and short, direct action battles define the adventure for a single player.
Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with improved visuals
The native Switch 2 Edition, released Apr 23, 2026, adds a smoother frame rate and an optional 4K resolution mode to the Switch version.
