Aftergods

Aftergods is an action RPG from a bird's-eye view by Norsfell, the studio behind Tribes of Midgard. After Ragnarök, players take on the role of surviving divine descendants, the Godborn. They explore a hand-crafted open world, search for the scattered seeds of the World Tree and, with allies, build a new circle of gods.

Norse, Greek and Egyptian mythology flow into the game world. Rather than a direct sequel to Tribes of Midgard, Norsfell is developing a standalone game with combat, survival mechanics, settlement building and single-player or co-op mode.

Norsfell unveiled Aftergods at the Triple-i Initiative on Oct 8, 2026. No specific release date or window has been published yet. The game is announced on Steam and Epic but not yet available.

The first trailer shows the world and conveys the planned style. Information on price, final editions or paid expansions is still missing.

Aftergods was announced for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Microsoft Store also explicitly lists Xbox One as a playable device.

Steam confirms German on-screen text and full controller support. German voice-over is not listed. Whether all features are identical on every console remains to be seen.

The story takes place in an open, hand-crafted world where divine descendants encounter various mythologies. From a bird's-eye view they fight mythical creatures, collect materials, forge equipment and explore further regions.

The Nectar forms the core of divine powers: when the limited supply runs out, the character returns to a more vulnerable mortal form. Norsfell also promises different divine origins and classes, as well as transformations into a phoenix, manticore or siren. The creature forms serve, among other things, to cross mountains and waters.

No expansions or special editions for Aftergods have been announced so far.

For Windows, Norsfell lists the minimum as 16 GB RAM, Ryzen 5 2600X or Core i5-8500, GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB, DirectX 12 and 15 GB storage space. A GeForce RTX 3060 with 8 GB is recommended. Steam Deck compatibility has not yet been rated.

Rescued mortals and former deities join your own pantheon. According to Norsfell, these followers have abilities that simplify or automate building, crafting, harvesting and storage. Their contributions create settlements with temples and monuments.

Resource gathering is also supposed to use divine powers: instead of felling trees one by one, a powerful storm can work through whole forest areas. According to the announcement, food is not a fixed survival requirement, but it can bring benefits. What limits these systems will have in the finished version is not yet known.

Aftergods is said to offer both an offline single-player mode and cooperative online matches. Steam and Epic list single-player and online co-op as features. Norsfell also describes peer-to-peer hosting and the option of rented dedicated servers.

The Xbox Store currently lists online groups of two to ten people. Whether this group size applies on all platforms or whether crossplay is offered has not yet been fully confirmed.
