Age of Wonders 4

Age of Wonders 4 is a turn-based fantasy strategy game from Triumph Studios and Paradox Interactive. Players create their own realms and rulers, combine physical forms, society traits and magic bands, and lead their people to victory through diplomacy, conquest or arcane power.

The campaign is not tailored to a single fixed faction: the game relies on highly customisable peoples and procedurally generated realms, in which decisions visibly change the development of rulers, units and the world.

Age of Wonders 4 was released on May 2, 2023. Triumph Studios developed the game and Paradox Interactive publishes it. Since launch, the strategy sandbox has been continuously expanded with free updates and paid expansions.

The base game was released natively for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Since the announcement, Paradox has listed these three platforms as the supported versions; a PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch version is not part of the original platform lineup.

Age of Wonders 4 combines empire building on the world map with tactical, turn-based battles. Factions can be assembled from forms, culture, society traits and Tomes of Magic; new magic bands expand units, spells and long-term transformations of your own people.

Alongside conquest and magic, diplomacy, exploration, city building and narrative events play a central role. Multiplayer supports both live matches and asynchronous play, in which participants can take their turns at different times.

Triumph Studios continuously expands Age of Wonders 4 with content packs, story packs, major expansions and free companion updates. Expansion Pass 4 includes Singer of Storms, the maritime expansion The Silver Seas, Court of the Archfey and Forge of the Firstborn.

The Silver Seas releases on Nov 3, 2026. Court of the Archfey is planned for Q1 2027, and Forge of the Firstborn for Q2 2027.

For the Windows version, Paradox Interactive lists at least an Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 670 with 2 GB or comparable graphics. Recommended are an Intel Core i7-9700K or Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1070 Ti or RX 5700 XT. The Windows version requires a 64-bit operating system.

The Silver Seas permanently expands the world map with a more playable ocean area. The new Mercantile Culture can found cities on land and at sea and branches into the subcultures Cartel and Barony. Also added are the forms Aqualon and Sharkkin, plus four new magic bands: Hydromancy, The Damned, Piracy and Eternal Ice.

The expansion also adds the pirate settlement Bond of the Free Captains, new sea events, landmarks, Ancient Wonders, Infestations, materials and maritime creatures. The current dev diary details the magic bands, including wet/control mechanics for Hydromancy and plunder as well as ember dust effects for Piracy.
