What is Big Walk?

Big Walk is a cooperative online adventure from House House and publisher Panic. Two to twelve people explore a vast landscape, solve puzzles together and find their own ways to make themselves understood. Tools, gestures and spatial voice chat are part of the gameplay.

Between tasks there is room to explore and simply spend time together. The adventure has a beginning and an end, but it is also designed for free time together.

Gameplay

The open game world has no typical loot treadmill. Instead, you work out the terrain and how things connect, find routes together and try out unknown situations. House House names binoculars, megaphones, radios, signal devices and pointing gestures among the tools.

The flow alternates between planned tasks and relaxed time together. The game is a handcrafted cooperative journey, not just a meeting place without an ending.

Two to twelve players, crossplay and sessions

Two to twelve people can play together online. Crossplay between the available platforms is planned. There is no split-screen, no automatic matchmaking with strangers and no full solo mode.

When a group starts, the host decides whether the world is set up for two, three or four or more players. Some puzzles depend on this. The host also keeps the shared save and must reopen the session themselves to continue later. Friends can join via platform friend lists or a shared code.

Spatial chat as a game mechanic

The built-in voice chat depends on the spatial situation: voices get quieter over distance and can be muffled by surroundings. Radios and other objects change how you communicate. Gestures help when speaking alone isn't enough.

If you don't want to use a microphone, you can communicate via text chat, according to the developer. It follows the same intended range limits. House House advises against parallel external group calls, because they would undermine the game's core challenges.

Accessibility and skipping challenges

The documented options include remappable inputs, selectable crosshairs, toggle options for some controls and several settings to reduce motion sensitivity. On PC and Mac, the field of view can be changed.

The host can make challenges skippable in the accessibility menu if, for example, reaction time, fine motor skills, hearing or speaking are an obstacle. Built-in text chat can replace voice chat for the whole journey.

Language and localisation

Steam lists German as one of 14 supported interface languages. The spatial in-game voice chat is shaped by the players themselves. This store language list is evidence for the PC version, not for every console version.
