Gameplay

Each player explores their own environment from a first-person perspective. Clues, symbols and controls are often split between the two people. If you have a mechanism in front of you, you won't necessarily know its solution. You progress by describing your discoveries clearly over the radios and coordinating with each other.

Radio contact instead of a shared view

The walkie-talkies are the most important tool: the two characters often see different rooms and cannot simply show each other the same clues. For example, one player describes symbols or an arrangement, while the other works out the correct sequence or action from that. Good communication is therefore part of the puzzle itself.

Castle Rock and Rockbury

The journey begins in the dungeons of Castle Rock and later leads through other areas of the castle and its surroundings. These include Rockbury, a creepy graveyard and a foundry. Behind the locations is a story about a king, his plans and the mysterious figure of the court jester.

Crossplay and online co-op

We Were Here Forever is designed exclusively for two players in online co-op. The developer confirms cross-platform and cross-generation play. Both players need a working microphone and a stable internet connection. On consoles, an appropriate subscription may be required for online play.

Asymmetric puzzles

The tasks require more than just solving individual switch puzzles. Two different perspectives interlock: one person can see information while the other works with the matching devices. Sometimes both have to time their steps together. The adventure combines this principle with exploration and an ongoing story.

Game length and replayability

The story takes you through several different environments with self-contained puzzles. Since both players often take on different tasks, they make different observations depending on their role. The adventure is not designed for open multiplayer groups, but for solving things together as a fixed two-player team.
