Blood Bowl 3

Blood Bowl 3 is a turn-based fantasy football game by Cyanide Studio. Two teams from the Warhammer world try to get the ball into the opposing end zone. Coaches decide on routes, blocks and passes, while dice rolls can ruin even well-planned plays.

Blood Bowl 3 was released on February 23, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch version has been announced.

Blood Bowl 3 has been released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. On Xbox, the store versions support Smart Delivery. The announced Switch version is separate from these releases.

On each turn, you move your players to run, block, dodge, throw or pick up the ball. Range, skill values and dice rolls determine the chances of success. Blocks, injuries and fouls are part of the tactics, because a player knocked out can also affect later matches.

Additional customisation packs include special balls, cheerleaders and visual equipment for Black Orcs or the Imperial Nobility, among other things. The Brutal Edition bundles the base game with several of these cosmetic extras and Warpstone. New factions were also added during the game's development.

For the PC version, Steam lists at least Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD FX-6350, 6 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 650 or Radeon HD 7770 and 12 GB of storage. 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon R9 380 are recommended.

At launch, twelve factions were available, including Humans, Orcs, Skaven, Dwarfs and Dark Elves. Black Orcs, Imperial Nobility, Old World Alliance and Chaos Renegades were playable in a Blood Bowl video game for the first time. Further teams such as Lizardmen, Wood Elves, Amazons and Chaos Dwarfs were added later.

The single-player campaign "Clash of Sponsors" lets you face sponsored teams and well-known star players. Outside of matches, you manage your roster, develop talent and put together equipment and your team's appearance.

Alongside matches against the AI, there are online competitions, an official ranking and self-organised leagues. For your own competitions, you can set team selection, pitches and time limits. Two people can also play against each other on the same device.

The rules follow the "Second Season" edition of the Blood Bowl board game. Passes have their own values, while special stadiums add extra rules to the game. On the pitch, chance and risky actions can prevent a sure touchdown at the last moment.

The PC version offers a German user interface and German subtitles. Full voice output is available in English. Steam supports achievements, cloud saves and controllers with limited functionality.

Warhammer Blood Bowl is a standalone remake based on Blood Bowl 3. It is expected to release in Q4 2026 and introduces the newer board game rules, the Bretonnians and Tomb Kings, as well as the shortened 7-a-side Rumble mode. Anyone who owns Blood Bowl 3 gets the new game for free and keeps the content they have already acquired.
