Bloons TD 5

Bloons TD 5 is a tower defense strategy game by Ninja Kiwi. You place monkey towers along set paths so that as few balloons as possible reach the end of the track. Different enemy types and upgrade paths keep demanding new combinations.

The PC version was released on Steam on November 19, 2014. The game followed on Xbox One on March 3, 2017, and on PlayStation 4 on May 8, 2017. The European Nintendo Switch version was released on June 19, 2018.

Bloons TD 5 is available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Windows and macOS belong to the PC family. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can play older versions via backward compatibility, but there is no separate native release for them.

Each track has set paths along which balloons advance in waves. Successful rounds earn money for new towers and upgrades. Anyone who builds only for quantity will fail against special balloon types with camouflage, regeneration or high resistance.

The PC version offers additional skins for various monkey towers, including designs for Dart Monkey, Ninja Monkey and other defenders. These packs change the look and are not standalone sequels. On Xbox One, the free Odyssey mode is also available as an expansion.

The historical minimum requirements on Steam list a processor of 1.5 GHz or faster, 512 MB RAM, OpenGL 2.0 and 512 MB storage. The current Steam client requires Windows 10 or newer. A macOS version is also listed on Steam.

The PC version features 21 towers with activatable abilities and two upgrade paths. These include Heli Pilot, Engineer and Bloonchipper, among others. Their range, effect and cost determine where they are worth placing on a track.

Besides basic balloons, camouflaged and regenerating variants appear. Large enemies such as ZOMG require especially strong defense. Not every tower can fight all balloon types equally well, so combining units is key.

Special agents add special deployment options to the regular towers. In the Monkey Lab, you can research upgrades that apply across towers. Both systems add extra decisions alongside upgrading individual towers.

The game offers different difficulty levels, special missions and rounds that can be continued freely. The PC version also includes Odyssey challenges and randomly generated missions. The exact number of tracks differs between releases.

Bloons TD 5 supports co-op for two players. On Nintendo Switch, two players can play together on the same console or online. Online matches on Switch require a corresponding Nintendo Switch Online membership. The PC version also offers online co-op.

The PC, PS4 and Switch versions support German on-screen text. On Nintendo Switch, the game can be played in TV, tabletop or handheld mode. The scope of individual multiplayer features varies by platform.
