Gameplay

Before a round begins, you set up your defense on a map. Bloons follow a fixed route. Each enemy that escapes costs you lives, while defeated Bloons earn money for additional towers and upgrades.

The further you progress, the more resistance and special traits the enemies bring. A strong defense therefore combines damage types, lines of sight, ranges and abilities, rather than just upgrading a single tower.

Monkey towers and upgrade paths

Each monkey tower has three different upgrade paths. You decide which strengths to develop and how multiple towers support each other.

Key differences include attack speed, range, area damage, and which Bloon types can be hit at all. Support buildings can also change the course of a round significantly.

Heroes and special abilities

Heroes fight as independent units alongside your monkey towers. They level up during a game and develop special abilities.

Your choice of hero shapes the whole strategy: some boost other towers, while others focus on direct damage or controlling large groups of enemies.

Paragons as late upgrades

Paragons are especially powerful tower upgrades that bring several upgrade paths together. They are aimed mainly at advanced games and hard challenges.

Building them costs considerably more resources than regular upgrades. So you have to decide whether to invest early in a broad defence or save for a strong later combination.

Maps, routes and difficulty levels

The hand-crafted maps have different paths, obstacles and placement areas. As a result, the same towers do not work equally well everywhere.

Several difficulty levels and special rules change which tools are allowed. Even a map you have already completed can therefore pose a different challenge with a new tower combination or under stricter conditions.

There are also challenges, free play and special challenges that focus on different parts of the tower and hero system.

Boss Bloons

Boss Bloons place particularly high demands on damage, timing and money management. Their battles force you to focus your defence on different targets than in regular rounds.

Paragon upgrades and combined tower abilities play an important role here. The core boss mechanics are a permanent part of the game, even though specific events change.

Single-player mode can also be played without a permanent internet connection. Online co-op, shared competitions and sharing community content require an internet connection.

Offline mode is especially suited to individual maps and free rounds, without the game depending on other people's connections.

This also gives familiar maps new conditions, such as unusual tower restrictions or altered enemy waves. The editor adds to the game modes designed by Ninja Kiwi.
