What is CONTROL Resonant?

CONTROL Resonant is the direct sequel to Remedy's Control and puts Dylan Faden at the center. Years after his capture by the Federal Bureau of Control, Dylan is sent into a new paranatural crisis. Manhattan is warped by cosmic forces, the Hiss, the Mold and other anomalies, while his sister Jesse Faden is missing.

Rather than exploring the Oldest House again, Remedy opens the series up to a larger city structure. CONTROL Resonant stays firmly anchored in the familiar universe but is meant to work with Dylan as the new lead even without full knowledge of the predecessor.

Gameplay

Dylan Faden fights far more physically than Jesse in the first Control. His central weapon is Aberrant, a shape-shifting melee weapon with different primary and secondary forms. Combos, finishers and Dylan's paranatural abilities interlock and reward an aggressive combat rhythm.

Manhattan consists of large, hand-built zones with main missions, optional World Quests, hidden encounters and gravity anomalies. Between missions, the so-called Gap serves as the central hub for progress and build development. Powerful Resonant Entities form special boss encounters and also affect the danger level of their respective zone.

Assist Mode lets you individually adjust key parameters such as enemy aggression, dodge windows, and incoming and outgoing damage. The sliders can make the game easier or harder without locking trophies or achievements.

Progression and builds

CONTROL Resonant expands character development considerably beyond its predecessor. Dylan has an extensive talent tree, while the different forms of Aberrant get their own upgrade paths. There are also selectable secondary weapons, Combat Abilities and special combo finishers that make builds differ more from one another.

The zones themselves also respond to progress: battles, secrets and completed quests raise a region's level and unlock bonuses. If the powerful Resonant Entities are defeated, the zone can in turn become more dangerous. This means progression is tied not only to Dylan and his equipment, but permanently to the structure of Manhattan.

Manhattan and movement

Remedy's Manhattan is not a seamless open world but consists of densely designed, interconnected zones with their own activities, side quests, secrets and staged battles. This allows greater freedom than in the Oldest House, without dissolving the individual areas into a classic open world.

Dylan's movement is designed for this larger structure. He can jump, glide, dash and move through the environment at high speed. Later, vertical surfaces and even ceilings can also be used, so buildings and distorted city areas are built directly into navigation.

Internally, Remedy refers to its stylized version of New York as „Strange York“: not an exact copy of the real city, but a deliberately cinematic, retro-style interpretation. Ordinary streets and believable everyday objects serve as contrast so that paranatural distortions stand out more. In areas such as the Sinkhole, the rule also applies that every visibly walkable surface should be walkable, including walls and ceilings when gravity shifts.

Art and boss design

The visual design combines the familiar brutalist heritage of Control with a larger, more destructible city. Remedy deliberately uses everyday architecture as a starting point and then has paranatural interference break, tilt or realign streets, buildings and interiors.

The so-called Resonants are designed as special boss encounters and gameplay „skill checks“. Their themes emerge together from mechanics, environment and art direction: some draw on motifs such as mycelium or swarm control, while, according to Remedy, the visual language also deliberately quotes medieval iconography and church architecture. The Gap, by contrast, relies on bare concrete and abstract spaces as a visual mirror of Dylan's long imprisonment.

Game series

CONTROL Resonant directly continues the story of Control and swaps Jesse Faden for her brother Dylan as the playable lead. Jesse remains central to the plot but is missing at the start of the new game. The Federal Bureau of Control, the Hiss and the Mold return as part of the world, while a new form of Resonance further escalates the crisis in Manhattan.

Remedy also describes Resonant as a new entry point. The sequel expands the Control universe beyond the Oldest House without leaving behind its characters and paranatural rules.
