What is Alan Wake?

Alan Wake is Remedy Entertainment's psychological action thriller about bestselling author Alan Wake. During a holiday in Bright Falls, his wife Alice disappears. At the same time, Alan finds pages of a manuscript he cannot remember writing, and whose events become reality.

The story blends mystery, horror and deliberately episodic TV-style structures. Bright Falls, Cauldron Lake and the Dark Place later become a central part of Remedy's larger Connected Universe.

Gameplay

Alan Wake combines third-person action with a light-and-darkness system. Enemies possessed by the darkness must first be weakened with a flashlight, flares or other light sources before conventional weapons take effect. Ammunition, batteries and safe light sources structure both combat and exploration.

Between confrontations, the focus is on exploration, manuscript pages and uncovering the events in Bright Falls. The Remastered version keeps the original gameplay and mainly modernises the presentation.
