Coral Island
Coral Island is a tropical farming and life simulation from Stairway Games. Farming, relationships, restoring the coral reef and co-op with up to four players form the core. After the PC early access in 2022, version 1.0 was released in November 2023 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series; a native Nintendo Switch 2 version is announced for winter 2026/27. A version for the original Nintendo Switch, however, was canceled.

What is Coral Island?
Coral Island is a farming and life simulation from the Indonesian studio Stairway Games. On a tropical island, your character sets up an overgrown farm after leaving city life behind. Farming, animal husbandry and crafting sit alongside relationships with residents and protecting the environment.
Exploration also leads into caves and underwater to coral reefs and a Merfolk community. In single player or in online co-op with up to four people, you decide whether the farm, the village community or restoring nature takes priority.

Release
Coral Island began on PC in Early Access on Oct 11, 2022. The full version 1.0 was released on Nov 14, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The later versions 1.2 and 1.3 mainly expanded multiplayer, the ocean world and relationships.
For winter 2026/27, Stairway Games and Balor Games announce the native Switch 2 version together with the major family update 1.4 “Kids Grow Up”. They have not yet named a specific launch date.

Platforms
Native versions are available for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox Store also lists Xbox Play Anywhere, a purchase and usage rule for the devices it supports. This does not mean a separate native Xbox One version.
A separate Switch 2 version is being prepared for Nintendo. The release originally planned for the original Nintendo Switch has, by contrast, been explicitly cancelled by Stairway Games, citing platform and performance limits. A Switch 2 port is no proof of a Switch 1 release. Exact performance details for the future Nintendo version are still pending.

Gameplay
From overgrown land, step by step, a farm with fields, barns and production options emerges. Crops need care and change with the seasons; livestock, foraging, fishing and crafting provide further materials. Tools, buildings and various upgrades expand your options.
Coral Island combines these classic farming tasks with exploration. In caves, ores and gems are mined, while enemies also lurk there. Instead of working through all activities in a fixed order, players can freely shift their focus between farm management, social relationships and exploration.

Coral reef and Merfolk kingdom
Underwater, your character removes waste and gradually opens up areas of the coral reef. This links the island farm with a lasting task for the island's environment. Exploring the sea also leads to a Merfolk community, whose characters and stories go beyond ordinary farm work.
At the same time, community projects can move Starlet Town forward: the museum grows, old sites are restored, and the town changes with its town rank. Farming and conservation are parallel progress systems, not separate minigames.

Residents, romance and the upcoming family expansion
More than 70 characters populate the island. Conversations, gifts and events build friendships and romantic relationships. Marriage and starting a family are among the longer-term options, but they are not required to run the farm.
The Update 1.4 “Kids Grow Up”, announced for winter 2026/27, expands parenthood: your own children are to grow from baby through toddler and school age to teenager. Hobbies and interests affect further interactions; known children from the town also grow older. These are announced features, not components already released in the current game version.

Online co-op and crossplay
Coral Island can be played alone or together with up to four people. In co-op, participants share the daily life on the farm and can tackle farming, exploration and other activities together.
Steam and the console stores list cross-platform play. Stairway Games has also planned crossplay for the announced Nintendo Switch 2 version. The ability to play together is not the same as cross-platform purchase rights or save files.

Major game updates since version 1.0
Coral Island was significantly expanded after the first full version. The update series added co-op mode, new content around the ocean world and relationships, among other things. Update 1.4 “Kids Grow Up”, announced for winter 2026/27, is meant to further develop parenthood and family life.
Planned are four life stages of your own children, new conversations with family members and growing children in Starlet Town. The studio also announces a reworked cooking interface, fishing gear and supported controller vibration. These new features should be understood as announcements until the release of 1.4.

Development and publisher
Coral Island was developed by the Indonesian studio Stairway Games. Humble Games was the original publisher for Early Access and the full release in 2023. After the Humble Games catalogue moved to Good Games Group, the game appears in current official stores under Balor Games.
The figures refer to different phases of the same game, not different product generations. The Switch 2 version now announced is also overseen by Stairway Games and Balor Games. The version once promised for the original Nintendo Switch has been dropped.
