Gameplay

In the Great Ocean of Pywel, you can steer your own ships, explore islands and discover sunken ruins. A ship quest becomes available after building the Greymane camp in Howling Hill. Afterwards, companions can be assigned to shipbuilding at the harbour. Alternatively, you can buy a ship from the fleet management.

Kliff, Oongka and Damiane can dive without any additional unlock. Underwater, however, your air supply runs down. Diving gear can make longer exploration possible. Between ruins and treasure chests, new sea creatures and mounts also await.

Kliff, Oongka and Damiane each get their own additional story in Charting the Unknown. These chapters can be started from the journal after finishing the main story. Another storyline about the ocean opens right after the main quest "Howling Hill".

In new islands, the companions face additional enemies and can build further strongholds. The expansion requires the main game and continues the story in Pywel.

Houses, castles and relationships

Charting the Unknown expands home building and turns two castles into customizable residences. Drakesfall Castle becomes accessible after the main game and freeing the fortress. Flame Knight’s Castle also requires Damiane’s quest “Politician”. Your own rooms can be changed with walls, windows and other building parts.

After building Greymane Camp and completing Luke’s quest, players can also manage businesses such as restaurants, sawmills, smithies and tailor shops. Relationships with residents can lead to marriage. There are also 17 residences, an expanded trust system and the mini-game “Banker’s Dice”.
