What is Dragon’s Dogma 2?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a story-driven open-world action RPG by CAPCOM. Players take on the role of the Arisen, whose fate is bound to a dragon, and travel through the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl. Instead of a traditional fixed party, the Arisen is accompanied by a personal main pawn; additional AI-controlled pawns can be recruited along the way.
The game features an open fantasy world, physics-based combat and situations that develop from the environment, group composition and time of day. Large enemies can be climbed, terrain and objects can become part of the fight, and your choice of class determines weapons, abilities and role within the party.

Platforms
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The native Nintendo Switch 2 version releases on Oct 9, 2026. There is no version for PlayStation 4, Xbox One or the original Nintendo Switch.
All versions are designed as single-player adventures. Network features are mainly used for the Pawn system: other players’ Pawns can be added to your own party, without this becoming a classic co-op mode.

Gameplay
The focus is on real-time combat, exploration and freely composing your party. The chosen vocation determines which weapons and skills the Arisen uses and whether they fight in melee, at range or with magic, for example. Vocations can be switched and developed as the adventure progresses.
The world reacts strongly to physical interaction: large monsters can be climbed, destructible or movable elements open alternative routes, and encounters can play out differently depending on terrain and party makeup. Quests are closely tied to exploration and decisions, and do not always lead to the goal via a single intended path.

Pawn system
Pawns are AI-controlled companions from the world of Dragon’s Dogma. Your main Pawn accompanies the Arisen permanently and can be customised in terms of appearance, vocation and abilities. Two more Pawns can be recruited from the network of other players or from the game world.
Pawns learn from their travels, point out locations or quest objectives, and bring different strengths depending on their vocation. This keeps party composition a lasting core system of the game, even though Dragon’s Dogma 2 itself is not a classic multiplayer title.

Dark Arisen: Norgan and new challenges
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen expands the base game with several lasting content blocks. The focus is the new snowy region Norgan, where the Arisen, together with the enigmatic Eir, pursues the secrets of the immortal Fallen Dragon.
The expansion also adds twelve new dungeon challenges, new weapons and abilities, and more character creation options. On Nintendo Switch 2, the base game and Dark Arisen are included in a shared bundle; the native Switch 2 version releases on Oct 9, 2026.

Hard Mode and New Game Plus since Update 4.0
In October 2026, Capcom added a permanently available Hard Mode to Dragon’s Dogma 2. The higher difficulty can be activated in both a new and an ongoing save. A new feature also lets you start the story over from the same save data.
These options are part of an update to the base game and do not need to be purchased with the paid Dark Arisen expansion. For players, the distinction matters: the new adventures in Norgan and the twelve dungeons belong to the expansion, while the difficulty mode and restart belong to the general game system.

Game series
Dragon’s Dogma 2 belongs to CAPCOM’s Dragon’s Dogma series and continues its central idea of an Arisen, a Dragon and AI-controlled Pawns. The story takes place in a standalone parallel world and does not require knowledge of the first Dragon’s Dogma.
Dark Arisen expands Dragon’s Dogma 2 from 2026 with Norgan and additional challenges, without departing from the game’s core principle as a single-player action RPG with a Pawn system.
