Gameplay

In Savathûn's Throne World, Guardians fight the Luminous Brood. These Hive enemies use familiar Super abilities and can be revived after defeat. This makes encounters demand more than the usual clearing of large enemy groups.

The campaign offers a normal and a Legend difficulty. On Legend, enemies attack harder and take more punishment. Additional rewards are offered for completing all missions at this level. The story can be played solo or with a fireteam.

Part of Destiny 2

“Schwur des Schülers” is the expansion's raid. It adds demanding cooperative battles and puzzles to the campaign for a well-coordinated fireteam.

The Witch Queen is itself an add-on to Destiny 2. Time-limited seasons and separate bundles are not the same as the permanently available campaign.

Glaive and weapon crafting

With The Witch Queen, Bungie introduced the Glaive as a new weapon class. It combines melee strikes with projectiles and a chargeable energy shield. The choice between attack and defense makes it especially interesting for close-quarters encounters.

Weapon crafting at the Enclave was also added: once a matching blueprint is unlocked, certain weapons can be forged with chosen traits and adjusted later. Not every weapon in the game can be crafted.

Savathûn's Throne World

The new destination combines swamps and ruins with a huge palace complex. Guardians collect clues, complete campaign missions and unlock activities outside the main story there. The environment reflects the Witch Queen's conflicting power: Hive architecture and radiant fortress structures stand side by side.

The “Wellspring” source also added its own activity for six players. It is designed around loot and weapons from the Throne World.

Game series

The Witch Queen continues the light-and-darkness story of Destiny 2. Savathûn belongs to the Hive and already played a central role in the background story before this expansion. Her new power raises questions about who can use the Light and what role Guardians play in that.

Bungie developed and published the expansion itself. It builds on Destiny 2 and is not a standalone game that can be launched on its own.
