Gameplay
Players choose between Titan, Hunter and Warlock. Each class combines firearms with its own abilities and subclasses. Loot from missions and activities provides new weapons and armour and forms the basis for different builds.
In PvE, activities range from story missions and patrols through strikes to multi-stage raids. There is also PvP in the Crucible, along with other competitive and cooperative formats. Many activities are designed for repeated play, team coordination and long-term gear progression.

DLCs and expansions
Destiny 2 has been expanded since 2017 through numerous major expansions. These include Forsaken, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate and Renegades. Smaller content packs and dungeons have also been released.
Which content is currently sold individually or in bundles can change. The focus is therefore on the long-term expansion structure, not on the current state of a store.

Content Vault: Which content should return
Bungie wants to bring back Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken as playable campaigns. The first planned package also includes the strikes, raids and raid lairs of these releases, as well as the Menagerie with reworked rewards. The restored content is meant to be accessible to all players.
Previous destinations that can be freely explored, with patrols, public events and Lost Sectors, are initially only an additional option. The same applies to previous seasonal activities, PvP maps and new weapon versions of old raids. For past seasonal story missions, the Gambit area Kell's Grave and some meeting points, there is currently no implementation plan. A restored campaign therefore does not automatically mean the full return of its former game world.
The technical preparation is expected to take until around January or February 2027. Bungie then expects roughly twelve months of transfer work. This is not yet a release date. Changes to lighting, enemies and game systems require adapting the old missions to Destiny 2's current technical standard.
