What is DIGIMON ALYSION?

DIGIMON ALYSION is a digital trading card game for smartphones. Bandai brings the Digimon Card Game, with its evolution chains, security cards and strategic decisions, to iOS and Android. The app combines duels against other players with a standalone story.

Battles pit Digimon cards, Tamer cards and event cards against each other. The game uses the rules of the physical card game but handles turn order, costs and effects automatically.

Gameplay

A duel is won when all five of the opponent's security cards have been broken and a final attack succeeds. Digimon attack, defend and evolve into stronger forms on the battlefield. The position of the cards and their effects decide which attacks get through.

The app carries out individual calculation steps automatically. Strategic decisions stay with the player: which card is played, when a Digimon evolves, and how many of the available resources are spent on it?

DLCs and expansions

Alongside cards from the Digimon Card Game, new cards designed specifically for the app will appear in DIGIMON ALYSION. The digital card collections are combined into decks whose Digimon, effects and colors allow different strategies.

Bandai plans optional in-app purchases. No binding details are available yet on the scope of future expansions or additional paid card packs.

Kanata's adventure in Lacuna

In story mode, you follow Kanata Hondo as she starts out in the virtual card game Digimon Liberator. Her online friend Futre invites her to explore the digital world. There, encounters with other players and Digimon lead to Lacuna, a virtual environment with its own conflicts.

The campaign combines dialogue with card duels and is also meant to introduce people who don't know the physical card game to the rules. Kanata's experience with other games does not replace learning the special Digimon rules.

Kanata, Futre, Valner and Gemmon

Kanata Hondo is the main character of DIGIMON ALYSION. She knows many game genres but has little experience with card games. Futre is her long-time online friend. Valner Dragnogh leads the Di:WO guild and tries to win Futre back.

The Digimon include Gemmon, a small white creature with a striking gem on its forehead. Renamon also plays a role in Valner's story. For the Japanese version, Bandai casts Shu Uchida, Hikari Kubota and Fairouz Ai, among others.

50 cards and the Digi-Egg deck

A regular deck consists of exactly 50 cards. Up to five Digi-Egg cards can be added in a separate stack. Up to four copies of the same card are allowed. Cards with the same Digimon can appear in several versions in the deck if their card numbers differ.

The composition determines how reliably a strategy works. Digital decks therefore need not only strong Digimon, but also suitable evolution stages, Tamer effects and options for different game situations.

The memory bar decides turn changes

Every card played and many developments cost Memory. The central bar is a shared resource for both players. Players who use a lot of Memory push the counter onto the opponent's side and can end their own turn that way.

As soon as the counter reaches at least one point on the opponent's side, the turn changes. The system forces you to weigh strong plays against the resources you leave your opponent for their next turn.

Digitation and inherited effects

Digimon can digitize into stronger forms by stacking cards on top of each other. The new card has its own stats and effects. Certain abilities of the cards underneath remain relevant as inherited effects.

Digitation costs its own memory and often forms the basis of a long-term strategy. Players who match evolution stages can prepare attacks or defensive combinations, rather than just playing single strong cards.

Digimon, Tamer, options and colors

DIGIMON ALYSION distinguishes between Digimon, Digi-Egg, Tamer and Option cards. Digimon are the main attackers and defenders. Digi-Eggs are hatched in their own area, Tamers support gameplay and Option cards change the course of a duel.

The six colors each have different focuses: red on attack, blue on technical card effects, yellow on security and lowering the opponent's strength, green on faster development, black on defense and violet on dealing with discarded cards.

Five phases per turn

A turn begins with readying the cards and drawing a new hand card. This is followed by the Digi-Egg hatching phase and the main phase, in which Digimon can be played, digitized and used to attack.

The app automatically handles tasks such as readying the cards, drawing and resolving effects. A special rule applies to the first player: no extra card is drawn on their first turn.

Ranked duels and tournaments

DIGIMON ALYSION is set to offer online duels, ranked play and tournaments. Bandai plans a competitive card game in which different deck strategies can compete against each other. Alongside these matches, a story campaign is planned.

Battles follow the Memory system, the five security cards and the Digitations of the Digimon Card Game. The digital version handles the technical resolution of card effects, so players can focus on their decisions on the playing field.

German is not among the announced text languages. Even if a release in several countries is planned, this does not automatically mean a German translation.
