DYSMANTLE is an open-world action RPG by 10tons. Your character wakes up on an island infested with creatures, breaks down items into materials and crafts equipment from them. Exploration, puzzles, farming, combat and the search for a way out form the core game systems.

Release
DYSMANTLE was in Steam Early Access from Nov 6, 2020 and launched as a full game for PC on Nov 16, 2021. PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series followed on Jan 19, 2022. The Switch version was released in early April 2022, iOS on May 19 and Android on Aug 23 of the same year.

Platforms
The eight reviewed releases cover PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. 10tons has released separate versions for the two PlayStation and Xbox generations. The Switch release is not the same as a native Switch 2 version.
The mobile version is available via the App Store and Google Play. The three major expansions are sold separately in the smartphone stores; DLC availability depends on the respective store.

Gameplay
DYSMANTLE is played from an angled top-down view. In the open world, transformed creatures attack, which can be defeated in melee, with ranged weapons or with traps. Collected resources and crafted tools open up new paths and areas.
The character doesn't have to constantly fight a hunger meter. Instead, unlocking permanent upgrades is the focus. Players who explore and craft become tougher over time and can get closer to escaping the island.

DLCs and expansions
The first major expansion Underworld came out in Aug 2022. An additional underground game world, new tasks and gear expand the base game. Doomsday led from April 2023 into its own archipelago and links exploring it with the story of failed experiments.
Pets & Dungeons first came out on Steam in Oct 2023. The expansion adds another map, dungeons and over twenty animal companions with their own abilities. Its console and mobile versions followed later, on Switch in Jan 2024. All three products are standalone add-on content for the base game and not additional platform editions.

System requirements
For Windows, Steam lists a 64-bit processor, 2 GB RAM, Shader Model 4.0 or higher, DirectX 11 and 768 MB of free storage. The original game requirements mention older Windows versions; the current Steam client itself has only supported Windows 10 and newer since 2024.
For macOS, the store lists among other things a 2 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, Shader Model 3.0 and 512 MB of memory. These minimum values come from the PC product page and say nothing about performance targets for individual consoles.

Breaking down as a core mechanic
Many items in the hand-built game world can be broken down into wood, metal, plastic and other materials with the right tools. Because stronger tools open more durable objects, unlocking new gear and exploring the map are closely linked.
Breaking down is more than an alternative way to gather resources: abandoned facilities become material sources used to permanently upgrade weapons, clothing, jewelry and tools.

Exploration, puzzles and side activities
Beyond combat, the island offers abandoned buildings, graves with puzzles, hidden treasures and regions that only become reachable with the right gear. Players can build outposts, hunt or catch animals, fish and grow plants.
Cooked dishes permanently improve stats and abilities. The calm activities are built into progression rather than only providing short-term consumables.

Multiplayer and Workshop on PC
The Steam version supports single-player as well as local split-screen co-op on one device. Steam Remote Play Together can also be used to play this local mode remotely. This does not mean a separate online co-op mode with dedicated servers.
Steam also lists full controller support, cloud saves and Workshop features. These PC features must not be assumed across every mobile or console version.

Mobile versions and save files
The iOS version was released on May 19, 2022, the Android version on Aug 23, 2022. The Apple App Store lists iPhone and iPad as well as compatible controllers. The store offers Underworld, Doomsday and Pets & Dungeons as in-app purchases.
On its official game website, 10tons also describes manual export and import of Android save files. Under certain conditions, files can also be transferred between Android and PC. This is a manual file function, not a general automatic cross-save promise for all consoles.

DYSMANTLE comes from the Finnish studio 10tons, which also acts as publisher. 10tons is known for Neon Chrome, Tesla vs Lovecraft and the Undead Horde games, among others. With DYSPLACED, the studio later developed a standalone fantasy survival RPG that entered Early Access in March 2026.
DYSPLACED is therefore a related studio project, but not a confirmed story DLC for DYSMANTLE here. The base game's expansions are called Underworld, Doomsday and Pets & Dungeons.
