Guild Wars Reforged

Guild Wars Reforged modernizes the original online role-playing game Guild Wars for today's devices. The collection includes Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. Characters, progress and the core game mechanics of the classic remain intact.

Instead of an open world where other players constantly walk past, Guild Wars separates shared towns and outposts from instanced adventure areas. Missions can be completed in a group or with computer-controlled companions. There is no monthly subscription fee for Guild Wars.

Released on December 3, 2025 for PC. Reforged is a major update to the existing Guild Wars and was automatically made available to previous owners as well.

The standalone apps for iOS and Android were released on June 24, 2026. Both use the same game worlds and allow shared adventures with PC players.

Guild Wars Reforged is available natively on PC, iOS and Android. The PC client is offered via ArenaNet and Steam and supports controllers and the Steam Deck, among other things.

On smartphones and tablets, the controls adapt to touchscreens. ArenaNet and Steam sign-ins can also be used on mobile. However, an identity created via Steam cannot be merged with an existing email-based ArenaNet account.

On iOS, new content is bought through the built-in store. Android also supports redeeming compatible Guild Wars series keys.

Combat in Guild Wars revolves around choosing a limited set of skills. Players put together their own combination of attacks, healing, control and support and adjust it to missions or enemies. Ten professions allow for numerous builds.

Groups can be formed in towns. For missions and exploration, you have other players, NPC henchmen and individually equipped heroes available. Alongside the story, Guild Wars offers competitive PvP game modes and harder challenges.

Eye of the North and the bonus missions pack are not included in the regular purchase of Guild Wars Reforged and can be bought separately.

On January 13, 2027, Guild Wars: Afterlife will be released. The new paid expansion tells a story in Xotecha and adds a dynamic dungeon. Before each run, skills from different professions can be put together. Guild Wars Reforged is required.

Guild Wars Reforged has relatively low hardware requirements. Steam lists at least a processor at the level of a Pentium III at 1 GHz, 2 GB RAM, a DirectX-9-capable graphics card and 4 GB storage space. An internet connection is required for the online features.

The PC version offers German user interface, voice-over and subtitles, among other things. Steam also lists English, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Polish and Russian. The languages available may vary by edition.

Prophecies begins in war-torn Ascalon. Factions leads to Cantha and the streets of Kaineng. Nightfall focuses on Elona and the threat posed by Abaddon.

The campaigns tell self-contained adventures but use the same basic combat system. Players can develop their heroes, collect skills and switch between the regions available in each campaign.

Reforged mainly improves usability. A new quest tracker makes it easier to find your way, while control hints and more readable interface elements help newcomers get started. High-resolution skill icons, options for larger text, anti-aliasing and a reworked audio system complete the technical adjustments.

The client supports XInput controllers and high-resolution displays. Reforged mainly changes access to the classic game, not the basic class or mission design.

Afterlife adds the Unformed to Guild Wars, a changing dungeon with jungle areas, cenotes and floating ruins. Unlike the classic combat setup, the skill bar here is built during a run through a draft system that combines skills from different professions.

Players take on the challenge with their existing characters, alone, with henchmen or together with friends. Rewards boost further runs or are kept permanently. The story leads to Xotecha and focuses, among other things, on the Cult of Odran.

On iOS and Android, the campaign Prophecies can be played for free. However, free mobile accounts have restrictions on chat and PvP and show ads when changing areas. Further campaigns and the full range of features can be unlocked.

If you have a valid ArenaNet account with Guild Wars Reforged, you can sign in on mobile with your existing characters. Since July 21, 2026, the mobile version also supports Steam logins. Shared servers let PC and mobile players play together.
