Gundam Breaker 4

Gundam Breaker 4 is an action game about building your own Gunpla models from parts of numerous Gundam machines. In missions, players take apart enemy mechas, collect their components and then combine them into new machines. A diorama mode for staged models complements the cycle of loot hunting, workshop and combat.

CRAFTS & MEISTER developed the game for Bandai Namco Entertainment. It belongs to the Gundam Breaker series but focuses on a standalone Gunpla game world.

Bandai Namco released Gundam Breaker 4 on August 29, 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Some North American digital stores list August 28; this is a regional date, not an additional release. Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate differ in the additional content included. The Season Pass adds to the main game and does not replace it.

Gundam Breaker 4 was released natively for Windows PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation versions are separate editions; the PlayStation Store describes a PS5 digital license for owners of the PS4 version. An upgrade is not the same as simple backward compatibility.

The official platform lists mention neither Xbox nor a separate Switch 2 version. No native release on these systems can be inferred from this.

In missions, self-built Gunpla fight against other mechas. Hits can knock off parts of enemy machines, which are collected as loot and later built in. Close-range and long-range combat alternate. As a new mechanic in the series, you can equip two different weapons at once, so players can adapt attacks and combinations to the machine they have built.

The core remains the cycle of mission, parts find, upgrade and another run with improved or entirely different equipment.

Five additional story missions and four diorama packs have been released for Gundam Breaker 4. The story expansions continue the campaign; diorama packs add to the creative customization options.

According to Steam, the Windows version requires at least Windows 10 (64-bit), a Core i5-2400 or FX-6300, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 760, Radeon RX 280 or Arc A380, and 14 GB of free storage. Recommended are Windows 11, a Core i5-6400 or Ryzen 3 1200, and a GTX 970, Radeon RX 580 or Arc A770. Both profiles list 8 GB RAM.

The kit draws on parts from more than 250 Gunpla base kits. Head, torso, arms, legs, back modules and weapons can be combined across model boundaries. Players can also change colors, stickers, wear marks and the sizes of individual parts. This means the look is not limited to a fully predefined Mobile Suit.

Your own builds also affect the weapons and skills available in battle. An unusual-looking build can also be a functionally new combination.

Outside of battles, you can arrange your own Gunpla in a diorama mode. Backgrounds, objects, poses and visual effects are available for this. Models can be presented as scenes and photographed without having to start a combat mission.

Additional diorama packs expand the backdrops and decorations. This is a creative play area with a different purpose than the combat-focused parts progression.

The story mode takes place within the fictional Gunpla battle environment GBBBB. Between missions you follow a voiced storyline, while upgrading your self-built machines drives your progress in the game. The story forms its own framework for battles and model building, not a direct retelling of a Gundam anime series.

Alongside single-player missions, Gundam Breaker 4 offers online co-op for up to three players. Together they can complete missions, defeat mecha enemies and collect new parts. Bandai Namco also documents mission types, leaderboards and the option to showcase your own builds and dioramas.

Whether cross-platform play is possible is not confirmed by the official descriptions consulted.

According to the manufacturer, the story mode includes English and Japanese voice-over. The user interface and text are available in German, English, French, Italian and Spanish, among others. Language and subtitle options depend on the respective store version.

Game progress depends heavily on collecting and upgrading parts. New mission runs provide more equipment and allow changes to Gunpla you have already built. If you want to try different combinations instead of one fixed solution, the workshop serves as a lasting part of the gameplay loop.
