What is Hell Let Loose: Vietnam?

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a standalone tactical multiplayer shooter set in the world of Hell Let Loose. Expression Games and Team17 move the large-scale battles to the Vietnam War, keeping 50-vs-50 battles, fixed squad structures, communication and a chain of command instead of lone-wolf action.

The spin-off keeps the series' core strategic idea but adds systems built for the setting, such as helicopters, tunnel networks, patrol boats and more asymmetric options for US forces and the North Vietnamese army.

Gameplay

The core is large-scale 50-vs-50 PvP battles. Infantry, recon, tank, mortar and helicopter units work together within a chain of command to control sectors and mission objectives. Communication and role assignment are central game mechanics.

The movement repertoire includes swimming, climbing and quick crawling. Wounded comrades can be dragged out of the line of fire before being treated and returned to combat.

Maps and game modes

The current scope includes six large-scale maps inspired by real locations and terrain of the Vietnam War. Dense vegetation, river courses, elevation changes and open military areas noticeably change lines of sight and movement routes compared with the European theater of war of its predecessor.

The official game page lists six game modes. These include Warfare, a battle for five sectors, and Offensive, with clear attacker and defender roles; four more variants change the mission parameters.

Factions and asymmetric systems

The two factions have different tactical tools. The US side uses helicopters for transport, supply and support. The NVA side can build tunnel networks to move troops covertly and open new attack routes.

Armed patrol boats extend combat to rivers and waterways. As a result, logistics, movement and map control differ significantly depending on the side.
