What is HITMAN World of Assassination?

HITMAN World of Assassination brings together the main campaigns of the modern HITMAN trilogy in one stealth game. As Agent 47, you explore large locations and decide for yourself how to eliminate your targets. Since Jan 2023, the stories from HITMAN, HITMAN 2 and HITMAN 3 have been offered in one combined edition.

The underlying HITMAN 3 was released on Jan 20, 2021. The Steam release followed on Jan 20, 2022. On Jan 26, 2023, IO Interactive bundled the trilogy's content under the title HITMAN World of Assassination. The native Switch 2 version was released on Jun 5, 2025, with iPhone and iPad following on Aug 27, 2025.

The game is available for Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and supported iPhones and iPads. The version for the original Nintendo Switch is streamed via the cloud and does not run natively on the console. In Feb 2026, a Mac version for Apple silicon machines followed.

Gameplay

Each contract takes place in a large area with many people and access routes. Disguises, overheard conversations, distractions and staged accidents open up different ways to complete the mission. Agent 47 can plan his equipment in advance. With location mastery and challenges, you unlock new starting points and tools.

DLCs and expansions

More missions, special contracts and additional locations can be unlocked via expansion packs. The larger content includes the New York and Haven Island campaigns from HITMAN 2, as well as the Seven Deadly Sins and Sarajevo Six. Whether these missions are already included depends on the edition you bought.

Where do the missions take place?

The locations include the Paris fashion house, Sapienza on the Italian coast, the Colombian jungle near Santa Fortuna and Thornbridge Manor in Dartmoor. Each location has its own security zones, routines and environmental mechanics. Players who return can reach the same targets in completely different ways.

What is Freelancer mode?

Freelancer adds a standalone campaign with changing contracts and risky decisions. Between missions, Agent 47 prepares his equipment in an upgradable hideout. If a mission fails, carried equipment can be lost. The mode has been part of the game since Jan 2023.

What game modes are there?

You can replay campaign missions, solve challenges and play self-defined contracts via Contracts. Elusive Target Arcade offers multi-part target series with additional rules. Freelancer is aimed at players who want long-term planning and a higher risk of loss.

How do the editions differ?

The full World of Assassination edition includes the main campaigns of the modern trilogy. Additional packs unlock more locations and special missions. Part One only offers a reduced portion of the content. Before buying, it is worth comparing exactly what access is included.

Which online features are important?

Location mastery, leaderboards and parts of game progress are linked to IO Interactive's online services. Limited offline play is possible. If you want to play challenges and permanent unlocks, you need to meet the requirements of the relevant platform.

Can HITMAN be played in VR?

On selected PC and PlayStation systems, HITMAN supports virtual reality. You explore the game world from a first-person perspective. The available headsets and control details differ by platform and version.
