What is Hotel Renovator?

Hotel Renovator is a hotel and renovation simulation by Two Horizons, published by Focus Entertainment. You take over a run-down family hotel, remove old fittings and redesign rooms, corridors and shared spaces. The renovation is tied to running the business: guests book the renovated rooms, review their stay and affect further expansion.

The game combines a guided story with a sandbox mode for your own design ideas. Its core is not building a hotel on open ground, but transforming an existing building.

Platforms

Confirmed native platforms are PC (Windows), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version is sold on Steam, among others. The Xbox Store lists the Xbox One version and the version optimised for Series X|S with Smart Delivery. The PlayStation Store lists PS4 and PS5.

The console generations remain separate: availability of an older version through backward compatibility alone would not prove a native release. A version for Nintendo Switch is not included in the official platform information.

Gameplay

First, space is cleared: remove old wallpaper and flooring, take out damaged fittings and prepare the rooms. Then walls and floors can be redesigned and furniture, lights and decoration chosen. This gives individual rooms their own style, instead of just using ready-made room templates.

The renovation affects how the hotel runs. New facilities and better designed rooms are meant to attract more demanding guests, while reviews and income fund further expansion. Switching between hands-on work and guest management shapes the core gameplay loop.

The expansions focus on decoration and themed design. On Steam, the sets Palace, Kawaii, Futuristic, Gym and Steampunk are listed, as well as Disco Room and Indoor Garden Room. The last two packs add themed rooms as well as furniture.

The Five Star Edition includes the main game and a selection or collection of the additional decorating content. The individual packs are add-on content, not new main games or platform releases.

Story mode and family hotel

The story begins with a run-down hotel owned by the family. While the building is restored, tasks and special guests guide you through running it. Story mode sets goals and links work on individual rooms to the development of the whole house.

If you prefer to design independently of these tasks, you can use the free sandbox mode instead. The two play styles share the same tools, but differ in whether set goals or your own design ideas drive the pace.

Sandbox and interior design

In sandbox mode, free design takes centre stage. The developer lists more than 2,000 items and customisation options for rooms. Besides furniture, these include floors, wall decoration, colours, lights and decorations.

This lets you design the hotel as a understated stay, a themed hotel or a boldly decorated building. The creative freedom comes from combining individual pieces and materials, not just from the number of ready-made rooms.

Guests, reviews and investments

Running the hotel comes with business goals for the renovation. Guests expect usable, clean and well-equipped rooms. Their reviews affect the hotel's reputation, while the income can be used for further work and additional offers.

As the hotel expands, new facilities such as a restaurant or a pool can be added. Designing individual rooms is therefore tied to the question of which investments make sense for the next stage of development.

Mods and self-designed furniture

In August 2023, Focus Entertainment announced mod support via mod.io for Hotel Renovator. The community can add extra objects and designs that expand the decorating options beyond the original inventory.

Availability of every community mod on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series cannot be assumed from this. Scope and access should be checked for each platform.

Game modes and language versions

Hotel Renovator is listed as a single-player game. Steam lists achievements and cloud saves. German is supported for the user interface and subtitles, while full voice audio is available in English according to the store.

An official shared online co-op mode is not part of the base game. For creative exchange, mod support and shared room design ideas are relevant instead.

Game series

Two Horizons developed Hotel Renovator, and Focus Entertainment published the game. It combines room renovation, interior design and hotel management in one shared flow.

The difference from a classic city-building or tycoon simulation lies in scale: instead of building an entire settlement, players work directly on the walls, floors, furniture and fittings of the individual rooms of their own hotel.
