Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a dark extraction shooter from Crytek. In late 19th-century America, individual players or teams search for clues about supernatural beings, claim bounties and try to reach an exit with their loot. Other players are on the map at the same time.

Historical gear, careful listening and choosing the right way back decide the success of a round.

Hunt: Showdown launched on August 27, 2019 for PC. The technically revamped version Hunt: Showdown 1896 launched on August 15, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is available for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The earlier versions for PS4 and Xbox One have been unplayable since August 15, 2024. Owners received a free upgrade to the respective new console.

A round combines exploring the environment with searching for clues to special targets. Once a group has found a reward, it must reach the exit. Other groups can take the same route, so a successful search is far from a safe ending.

Weapons, supplies and route choice shape your playstyle. Sounds help you judge movement in the environment.

For Hunt: Showdown 1896 there are more hunter figures, extra gear designs and cosmetic packs. They are not required for the base game.

New cards and larger changes to the game systems came with updates to the main game. Time-limited seasonal content should be told apart from permanently available packs.

The PC version of Hunt: Showdown 1896 requires at least Windows 10 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, DirectX 12 and 75 GB of free storage space. As graphics card, Steam lists a GeForce GTX 1650 Super or Radeon RX 5500 XT, each with 4 GB graphics memory.

Windows 11, 12 GB RAM and an RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600 XT with 8 GB graphics memory are recommended. The online game requires an internet connection. Crytek recommends an SSD and headphones.

Mammon’s Gulch introduced Colorado's mountain landscape in August 2024. Canyons, mines, rock walls and large differences in elevation create new routes and vantage points. The older locations lie in the swamps of Louisiana.

Crytek also made long-term changes to the landscapes there: Stillwater Bayou received revised paths and lighting in 2024. In June 2025, DeSalle was redesigned with changed access points and terrain sections.

Since the 2024 remake, Hunt: Showdown 1896 uses CRYENGINE 5.11. The new technology brought revised lighting, animations and graphics, as well as sound improvements.

On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Crytek lists 4K at 60 frames per second. For Xbox Series S, 2K and 60 frames per second are given. PC performance depends on the hardware used.

Bounty Hunt is the classic bounty hunt with a shared map and one exit. Soul Survivor has individual players playing for their equipment and the round win. The later-introduced mode Bounty Clash focuses the story on a single location and a short round.

Bounty Hunt suits solo players as well as groups of two or three. The exact approach and the matching equipment depend on the chosen mode.

Since March 2026, players can invite each other via lobby codes. On PC, this works between Steam and Microsoft Store. On consoles, owners of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can form shared groups.

PC and consoles remain separated when sending group invites.
