Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is the revised version of a classic Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. You assemble a party of up to six adventurers and travel through the icy mountains of the Forgotten Realms.

The focus is on combat, exploration and developing your own custom heroes. Beamdog brought the adventure, originally released in 2000, back in 2014 with additional classes, spells and a modernized interface.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition was released for PC on Oct 30, 2014. Versions for iOS and Android followed the same year. The versions for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch were released on Oct 15, 2019.

Beamdog modernized the role-playing game developed by Black Isle Studios in 2000. Skybound Games published the console versions.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, as well as iOS, Android, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The PC versions belong to the PC family. The three console versions do not support multiplayer.

Cross-platform co-op is available on PC and mobile devices. A PS5 or Xbox Series version is not the same as backward compatibility with the older versions.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition uses real-time combat with a pause available at all times. You can pause your party's movement and spells, issue new orders and then resume fighting. It is based on the second edition of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules.

The isometric view shows enemies, terrain and your entire party. A good formation and the right spell at the right time are often more important than quick inputs.

The Enhanced Edition includes the main adventure as well as the expansions Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster. Both add more areas, enemies and challenges. Several originally cut quests have also been restored.

No separate purchase is needed for the two included expansions.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition requires at least a dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM and 4 GB of free storage space on Windows. The graphics card must support OpenGL 2.0.

Steam lists Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and 11 as supported 64-bit systems. However, the current Steam client requires at least Windows 10. The PC version is also available for macOS and Linux.

In Icewind Dale, you assemble a party of up to six characters you create yourself. Races, classes and abilities affect how they work together in combat and exploration.

Beamdog added more than 30 class and specialization variants as well as additional spells, weapons and armor. This lets you try out even unusual party combinations.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition supports co-op with up to six players on PC and mobile devices. Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android can play together across platforms.

On PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, this multiplayer feature is not available. There you explore Icewind Dale alone.

The story takes your party into the icy north of the Forgotten Realms. Dangerous creatures and a power awakening beneath the glaciers lurk beyond the passes of the Spine of the World.

You explore dungeons, find loot and fight through areas where a poorly prepared party quickly reaches its limits.

The Enhanced Edition improves the user interface with a quick loot bar and additional convenience features. You can pick up found items faster and get a better overview of your equipment.

Beamdog also restored previously cut quests and fixed numerous bugs from the original.

The Steam version of Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition supports German menus, subtitles and voice acting. Single player, co-op, Steam achievements and cross-platform multiplayer are also supported.

On consoles, the multiplayer mode is not available. As with the PC version, the story and the included expansions remain playable.
