Mago

Mago is a 2D platformer with pixel graphics, magic abilities and light RPG elements. A young wizard sets out to rescue Princess Banani from the clutches of the evil Gourmet. Along the way, platforming sections, puzzles and unusual enemies lead him through eight different worlds.

Released on June 21, 2022 for PC. The expanded Hyperdelicious Edition is announced for Q4 2026 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. No specific release date for the consoles has been announced.

The original version is available for Windows PC. Five standalone console versions are announced with the Hyperdelicious Edition: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Each of these platforms will get a native version.

Mago combines precise jumping with wand actions. You defeat enemies, use magic to influence parts of the environment and search for hidden paths. Hand-built levels vary the pace between platforming challenges, small puzzles and minigames.

The Hyperdelicious Edition adds an extra world after the main story. The area, called Dream World, is said to offer four new boss battles, more collectibles and three costumes. A mechanic there changes the environment between dream and nightmare, while the new easy difficulty makes it easier to get into.

The PC version lists Windows 10, a 3.2 GHz dual-core processor and 4 GB RAM as minimum requirements. It also needs 2 GB graphics memory, DirectX 10 and 1 GB of free storage.

Gourmet kidnaps Princess Banani, which sets Mago's rescue journey in motion. Rather than a serious fantasy saga, the game tells a humorous story with exaggerated characters, short scenes and surprising encounters.

Eight differently designed worlds make up the adventure. Between colorful teapot landscapes, giant trees and old ruins, enemies, obstacles and tasks change. The environments have different game mechanics and their own boss enemies.

The wand is Mago's most important tool. You use it to defeat enemies, cleanse enchanted elements and solve small environmental puzzles. Not every situation can be overcome by jumping alone.

In certain sections, Mago pilots a mecha robot. These passages rely on different mechanics from the usual wand and jumping sections and break up the flow of play.

Musicalia is a quiet stop between adventures. Here you meet other characters and can use resources you have collected to buy new upgrades before you head to the next stage.

Hidden magic bullets are placed throughout the levels. Players who look off the direct route unlock additional items and upgrades. Secrets and optional detours are therefore a permanent part of the gameplay.

The Hyperdelicious Edition adds an optional easy mode. It is said to double health, make falls into pits less punishing and allow checkpoints without bullet costs. The difficulty can be changed at any time.

For PS5 and Switch, a standard retail version and the Gourmet Box have been announced. The Collector's Edition includes the physical game, a diorama, postcards and a printed collector's handbook. The extras are part of the packaging and are not separate game content.

The PC version supports German on-screen text and subtitles. Further languages are also available, including English, Spanish, French and Japanese. Steam lists full controller support and achievements.

Mago is designed as a single-player adventure. You guide the wizard through the story and unlock upgrades to his repertoire. The PC product page does not list a separate co-op mode.
