What is MARVEL Cosmic Invasion: The Siege of Castle Doom?

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion: The Siege of Castle Doom is the second paid expansion for the two-dimensional arcade beat 'em up MARVEL Cosmic Invasion. Tribute Games adds two playable characters and an extra game mode to the main game, set around Doctor Doom and his fortress in Doomstadt.

The DLC is not a new standalone game. It requires a matching version of the base game and uses its gameplay system: two Marvel characters are teamed up per level and can be swapped directly in combat. This creates new character combinations without replacing the game's style with a different genre.

Release

in 11 days

Dotemu and Tribute Games have announced Nov 10, 2026 as the release date for the second expansion. The exact date was revealed on Oct 8 during New York Comic Con with a new trailer. The expansion is not yet released; the date is a confirmed plan from the publisher, not a release that has already happened.

A first teaser was already published on Aug 17, 2026. At the time, Dotemu only named an autumn window. The October announcement narrowed it down to one day and introduced Susan Storm as a second playable character alongside Doctor Doom. This does not imply a release date for any additional standalone title.

Platforms

The DLC is announced for PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. Dotemu explicitly names these versions in the official release announcement. PC here means the native desktop release; the Steam listing includes system requirements for Windows as well as SteamOS/Linux.

The Switch 2 version and the PS5 version are listed as their own targets and are not just derived from backward compatibility. A native Xbox One version is not on the confirmed list. An older console version should not be assumed from the base game's availability either.

Gameplay

The Cosmic Swap system from the main game stays: players team up two heroes and switch between them mid-combo. Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman expand the playable roster. Castle Doomstadt adds extra hazards, including frozen fortress walls, dangerous lifts and rooms full of traps.

Tribute Games says the mode offers more than five times as many possible enemy encounters as the main campaign. This refers to the variety of encounters, not a story five times as long. New events and room layouts mean repeated runs produce different situations.

Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman

Doctor Doom, also known as Victor von Doom, is not only the thematic centre of the expansion but is also playable himself. Dotemu describes him as a figure with technologically advanced armour, occult abilities and an exceptional intellect. Which specific combinations his attacks enable in the finished game is not yet fully defined by this description alone.

Invisible Woman is Susan Storm from the Fantastic Four. Her official profile highlights the ability to bend light and manipulate force fields. Her character concept therefore clearly differs from Doom's armour and magic. Both are explicitly additional DLC characters and are not among the 15 heroes originally included in the main game.

Castle Doom city: how the new mode works

The Siege of Castle Doom adds a replayable challenge mode in Doctor Doom's fortress. Instead of fixed, unchanging combat rooms, players choose their path through differently built encounters. Doors lead to equipment, events with pros and cons, healing, particularly strong combat bonuses or additional progress.

Two bars shape the run: losses against enemies raise the siege meter, while victories deliver batteries for Reed Richards' stabiliser. Collecting enough batteries lets you slow Doom's growing power and improve your own options. A single run thus combines fights, route choices and the decision of when a team takes risks.

Co-op and character switching

The base game supports local and online co-op for up to four players as well as a drop-in/drop-out system. The expansion adds characters to this shared beat-'em-up system. Steam also lists single player, online co-op, split screen and Remote Play Together as supported features on the DLC product page.

The store also marks cross-platform multiplayer. However, this alone does not mean that every combination of PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series and the two Switch versions can play together without restrictions. A universal console crossplay promise is therefore not made here.

Upgrades and unlocks

Collected batteries for Reed Richards' stabiliser open up additional ways to strengthen the team. There are three categories of upgrades: Attack, Defence and Tactics. The upgrades each apply to individual characters and affect how a duo handles the rest of the route through the fortress.

In Reed Richards' lab, you can permanently unlock new equipment, events and modifiers. Completing a run also grants a new colour variant for your character. The game mode thus combines progress within one attempt with unlocks for further attempts.

Five different routes through the fortress

The doors in the Castle Doom mode are marked by their function. Equipment grants additional attack or defence abilities. Events change the rules of an arena, while Healing restores the group. Behind Infinite are temporary advantages such as unlimited ammo or unlimited focus. Progress brings batteries for the stabiliser.

This means that not only your own combat strength determines the course. Players also have to weigh whether to strengthen their characters, offset damage or collect extra resources for later encounters.

Game series

The second expansion is developed by Tribute Games, the studio behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, just like the base game. Dotemu lists its own company as publisher, while Steam also lists Gamirror Games in the distribution credits. The Marvel trademark rights and game production are separate matters.

The two new characters come from different parts of the Marvel universe: Doctor Doom is known as the ruler of Latveria and the long-time rival of the Fantastic Four, while Susan Storm is herself a team member. Cosmic Invasion already brings together earthly and cosmic Marvel characters, so the expansion adds characters and motifs into an established arcade world.
