MudRunner

MudRunner is an off-road simulation from Saber Interactive. Behind the wheel of heavy trucks, you transport timber and other cargo through wide, often unpaved landscapes. The goal is not a quick lap on a racetrack, but arriving safely despite soft mud, steep slopes, river crossings and limited supplies.

Driving physics respond to terrain, weight and traction. The map, compass and winch help you plan difficult drives. You can complete the missions alone or in online co-op with up to four players.

MudRunner was released on PC on Oct 30, 2017. The original console versions also came out on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2017. Nintendo Switch received the full American Wilds Edition with the main game and previously released additional content on Nov 27, 2018.

In August 2026, native versions came out for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The new generation offers visuals of up to 4K and 60 frames per second as well as faster loading times. The standalone mobile version for iOS and Android came out in July 2020.

MudRunner is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The PC version runs on Windows. The PS5 and Xbox Series versions released in 2026 have their own technical adjustments and are more than a simple backward-compatible playback of the older console versions.

On Nintendo Switch, the American Wilds Edition is a complete game including the base game and additional US content. MudRunner Mobile is a separate version for iOS and Android with adapted controls and its own content.

In MudRunner, slow off-road drives often require more planning than high speed. You choose a suitable truck, explore the map and bring your cargo to its destination over rough routes. Mud can sink wheels, water can limit the safe route, and slopes can endanger heavy vehicles.

All-wheel drive, differential locks and your choice of route change how the vehicles handle. With the winch you can secure yourself to fixed points or free stuck vehicles. The dynamic day-night cycle makes navigation harder too.

American Wilds expands MudRunner with North American vehicles and locations. The expansion includes new trucks from Ford, Chevrolet and Hummer, as well as two additional large maps. For PC, PS4 and Xbox One it was released in October 2018 as a separate add-on.

Further DLCs are called The Ridge, The Valley and Old-timers. The American Wilds Edition released on Nintendo Switch includes the main game together with the additional content released up to that point. A DLC is not the same as a new standalone game.

For the Windows version, Steam lists as minimum requirements a 64-bit processor such as the Intel Pentium Dual Core at 2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, a GeForce 9600 GT or comparable graphics card, and 1 GB free storage space. For better settings, an Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.5 GHz, 4 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 470 are listed.

The Steam version requires an internet connection for activation and for online matches. Logitech G25 and G27 wheels are explicitly supported. Steam itself now requires Windows 10 or later.

The base game includes 19 off-road vehicles with different characteristics and attachments. Light vehicles are suited to exploring, while heavy trucks carry timber loads and other cargo. Vehicle choice and accessories determine how well you cope with narrow forest tracks, deep mud and slopes.

The American Wilds Edition expands the selection with more American work vehicles. This bundle includes more than 30 vehicles and over 60 attachments.

The original landscapes lead through Siberian forests, river courses and muddy plains. Open maps allow different routes between task locations, workshops, petrol stations and timber loading points. Not every apparently short connection is passable with a loaded truck.

The American Wilds expansion adds two large additional maps based on areas in Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota. As a result, the full Switch version includes ten sandbox maps and eleven challenges in total.

MudRunner supports online co-op for up to four players. Several drivers can share exploring, material transport and recovery among themselves. A support vehicle can, for example, help with the winch at a difficult spot while another truck delivers cargo to its destination.

The mode complements the off-road experience, which can be played entirely alone. On consoles, the respective platform subscriptions may be required for online play.

The PC version supports Steam Workshop. There, players can discover and use community-made maps, vehicles and other modifications. This extends the scope beyond the official maps and DLCs.

Workshop support is documented as a feature of the PC version. No identical mod support can be derived from this for the console and mobile versions.

Navigation is done with a map and a compass. You decide whether to take direct, risky routes or longer paths with firmer ground. Especially with loaded trucks, deep fords and soft tracks can cost a lot of time.

The winch is an important recovery tool: it helps pull a vehicle out of the mud or secure it against sliding. Using the driving aids thus becomes part of the actual game task.

Since August 26, 2026, MudRunner has been available natively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The new console versions offer up to 4K resolution, 60 FPS, revised graphics and faster loading times.

According to the PlayStation Store, anyone who owns the digital PS4 version can download the PS5 version without an additional purchase. For a PS4 disc, a disc drive is required to use the digital PS5 version. On Xbox, Microsoft mentions Smart Delivery for the supported console generations.

MudRunner Mobile was released for iOS and Android in July 2020. The mobile version brings the off-road driving feel to smartphones and tablets with its own touch controls. Focus Entertainment names 15 open maps and delivery jobs, in which vehicles are moved through difficult terrain using the winch.

The mobile version is a separate product and not the same technical version as the original PC game. The mobile add-ons offered for it differ from the DLC variants on PC and consoles.

On Steam, the PC version offers a German user interface. Other interface languages include English, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Simplified Chinese.

The PlayStation 5 version supports German on-screen text and DualSense features such as vibration and trigger effects, among others. Available languages and control options depend on the platform.
