What is No More Heroes 3?

No More Heroes 3 is an action game about the hitman Travis Touchdown. In Santa Destroy, Travis encounters the alien Prince FU and his fighters, who have called a new galactic ranking. To defend Earth, Travis must defeat numerous opponents in one-on-one duels.

Grasshopper Manufacture combines fast sword fights with quirky humor, an explorable game world and side jobs. The presentation deliberately plays with superhero, anime and science fiction themes.

No More Heroes 3 first released for Nintendo Switch on Aug 27, 2021. The PC version followed on Steam on Oct 11, 2022. On Oct 14, 2022, the versions for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S were added, along with the Windows Store version.

The later releases offer revised graphics and shorter loading times, among other things. Each console generation has its own native versions.

Platforms

The game is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Windows version is sold through Steam and the Microsoft Store. On Xbox, the release supports Smart Delivery, and the PS4 and PS5 versions have their own save data and trophies.

No More Heroes 3 is a single-player title on all of these systems. On Switch, handheld, tabletop and TV modes are available.

Gameplay

Travis fights with a Laser Katana against human opponents and alien superheroes. Attacks, evasive maneuvers and grappling techniques create fast combos. Wrestling throws and Death Glove abilities expand the repertoire.

The fights escalate into boss battles, where attack patterns and reaction speed are decisive. Abilities can be expanded as you progress.

DLCs and expansions

The Digital Deluxe Edition on Steam includes the main game, a digital soundtrack with 22 tracks and an artbook with more than 70 pages. These extras are not a standalone sequel.

On Xbox there is also a free Purchase Bonus with five extra T-shirts for Travis. The bonus requires the respective base game.

Galactic superhero ranking

Prince FU has gathered a group of alien fighters around him. Travis must fight his way up to him through several ranking duels. Each opponent has their own attacks and quirks.

The ranking drives the story's structure. Between the most important fights are exploration and activities that Travis uses to fund his next climb.

Santa Destroy and other locations

Between main fights, Travis explores Santa Destroy and other areas on his motorcycle, the Demzamtiger. The game world includes side quests, combat missions and opportunities to earn money. Every new ranking fight must be prepared and funded.

Side jobs and earning money

Travis takes on tasks away from the main fights, including coast guard duties and toilet cleaning. These jobs add variety and provide the money for further ranking duels. They are part of the game structure and not online activities separate from the story.

Death Glove and character development

The customizable Death Glove adds extra abilities to the Laser Katana. These let you control enemies, prepare your own combinations and develop different fighting styles. Before the later duels, it is worth matching attacks and supporting techniques to each other.

Is there co-op or online combat?

No More Heroes 3 is a single-player action game. The campaign is built around the story of Travis Touchdown. Nintendo lists one player per system for the Switch version, and the Steam version also lists a single-player mode.

Graphics, language and age rating

The versions for PC and newer consoles offer sharper visuals and revised technical processes. The Steam version promotes Full HD display and up to 60 frames per second. On Nintendo Switch, German text is available, among other languages.

In Germany, the Switch version carries a USK rating of 18 and up. The game contains intense violence, blood depictions and coarse language.
