PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls

PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls is a family-friendly action adventure based on the movie PAW Patrol: The Movie. As a rescue dog, you lead missions in the big city of Adventure City and help the residents against the plans of Mayor Humdinger.

The game combines easy-to-access 3D sections with vehicle rides, tasks, collectible items and short mini-games. In local co-op, two people can experience the adventures together.

PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls came out on Aug 13, 2021 for PC, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The original Xbox One release launched in North America already on Aug 12, 2021.

A standalone PlayStation 5 version followed in Europe on Aug 18, 2022. The PlayStation Store lists Aug 19 for the US. According to Sony, owners of the digital PS4 version can download the PS5 version without buying it again.

The adventure is available natively for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One. According to Microsoft, the Xbox One version also runs on Xbox Series X|S. This is not a standalone Xbox Series release.

Nintendo Switch 2 can also run the Switch version via backward compatibility. A separate Switch 2 version is not among the releases. For PlayStation 5, however, a technically adapted native version is available.

On PC, Adventure City Calls requires Windows 10, at least 4 GB RAM and 6 GB free storage space, according to Steam. The store lists an Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 at 2.4 GHz or a comparable AMD model as the processor. The minimum graphics card is a GeForce GT 430 or Radeon HD 6850.

Recommended: Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX-4350, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon R9 280X. A controller is required for playing on PC.

PAW Patrol moves from familiar Adventure Bay to the big city of Adventure City. There, Mayor Humdinger presents the residents with new problems, and Ryder sends the dogs on rescue missions at different places around town.

Liberty, the female dog known from the cinema film, supports the team. Her local knowledge and her own abilities complement the specialties of Chase, Marshall and Skye.

The missions take place in freely explorable 3D areas, where you overcome obstacles, find routes and complete tasks. The dogs' vehicles and special equipment are used at set points.

The story follows a connected rescue mission, supplemented by extra tasks and hidden items. The game is designed with easy-to-follow sequences for younger players.

Each rescue dog brings its own abilities to the missions. Chase uses his police equipment, Marshall handles fire brigade tasks and Skye helps with tasks in the air. Liberty joins the team in Adventure City.

The missions switch between different characters, vehicles and tools. This gives the dogs their own tasks in the game, rather than just looking different from each other.

PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls supports local co-op for two players. Together you can complete the rescue missions and selected mini-games without needing two separate devices or an online partner.

The Steam version supports split-screen as well as Remote Play Together. On Nintendo Switch, one or two people can play on the same console.

Between rescue missions, there are small skill tasks, including the Pup Pup Boogie dance contest and running games. These tasks add variety to the exploration sections.

The mini-games can also be played alone or in local co-op. They focus on easy-to-spot goals and short rounds.

On the paths through Adventure City, you can collect dog treats. Finding these items rewards thorough exploration and unlocks additional badges.

The collection tasks give you a reason to revisit already known mission areas and look off the direct path.

The native PlayStation 5 version supports up to 60 frames per second, 4K resolution, HDR and shorter loading times, according to Sony. The DualSense controller uses vibration features.

The PlayStation Store offers a shared digital license for PS4 and PS5. With a PS4 disc, the disc must stay in the drive when playing the PS5 version. A PS5 Digital Edition without a disc drive cannot use this upgrade option in the same way.

The controls are designed for a younger audience and shared play. On PC, a controller is required: according to Steam, controls with keyboard and mouse only are not supported.

The character moves through the environments, interacts at set points and uses special abilities depending on the mission. On Switch, TV, tabletop and handheld modes are supported.

According to Steam, the PC version includes German menus, German subtitles and German voice acting. English, French, Italian and Spanish are also fully supported.

The PlayStation Store also lists German for both the language and on-screen display of the PS4 and PS5 versions. The exact selection of other languages varies between platforms.
