Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 is a third-person shooter by PopCap Games. After Dr. Zomboss wins, the plants fight to reclaim Suburbia. Both sides have their own classes, weapons and special abilities.

The shooter combines team battles with cooperative missions and solo matches against computer opponents.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 came out in February 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The German PlayStation Store lists February 22, while Electronic Arts gives February 23, 2016 as the regular release date.

The Deluxe Edition also came out on Steam on May 16, 2022. It includes the main game and additional character and accessory packs.

The game has native versions for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the older console versions run via backward compatibility, not as separate releases.

The Steam version requires an EA account, the EA app and an internet connection. On consoles, local split-screen play is also possible.

Plants and zombies compete against each other in classes with different roles. Some characters attack from a distance, others support allies or fight up close.

In Herbal Assault mode, plants capture enemy positions. Other modes offer defence missions, team battles and missions against AI opponents.

The Deluxe Edition includes the Z7 Imp variant with mech, additional character variants, customisation accessories, emojis and a starter pack with 200,000 coins.

Standalone expansion packs with characters and accessories are also available. These require the base game.

On PC, the game requires Windows 10 64-bit, at least an Intel Core i5-650 or AMD Phenom X4 9850, 4 GB RAM, a GeForce GT 640 or Radeon HD 7730, and 40 GB of free storage. DirectX 11 and an internet connection are required.

Electronic Arts recommends a Core i5-6600, 16 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 290.

There are 14 classes and more than 100 playable character variants to choose from. The new characters include Citron, Rose and Kernel Corn on the plant side, and Super Brainz, Captain Deadbeard and Imp on the zombie side.

Variants change weapons and abilities. This means characters in the same class fill different roles within a team.

The Backyard Battleground brings the game modes together as a walkable environment. Players take on tasks there, try out characters, and find challenges and secrets.

Up to four friends can explore the backyard together. The environment also offers combat apart from the classic multiplayer matches.

Cooperative missions support up to four players online. In Graveyard Ops mode, zombies defend their position against attacking plants.

On supported consoles, two people can play split-screen locally. Solo play against computer opponents is also possible. Online battles support up to 24 players.

Characters gain experience with every match and rank up. Character variants, costumes and other customizations gradually expand the selection.

Developing individual classes encourages you to try out plants and zombies with different playstyles.

The twelve original maps lead through winter landscapes, residential areas and a moon base, among other places. The different locations give attackers and defenders their own spatial options.

The backyard adds to these maps with a freely explorable area featuring tasks and hidden encounters.

The PC version offers German on-screen text. It also includes English, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese and traditional Chinese.

The PlayStation Store lists English voice audio and German on-screen text.
