Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is the HD remaster of the 2009 tower defense game. In the front yard, backyard and on the rooftop, different plants defend the house against advancing zombies. The game combines the original campaign with additional game modes and local multiplayer modes.

The reworked version comes from PopCap Games and The Lost Pixels. Electronic Arts published it for PC and several console generations in Oct 2025.

Platforms

The remaster was released natively on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch and Switch 2. Separate store versions exist for the two Nintendo generations. The Switch 2 version also supports GameShare for shared matches with a second device.

GameShare is not the same as cross-platform multiplayer. Co-op and versus modes are listed as local multiplayer features. Steam also supports Remote Play Together.

Gameplay

Enemies advance towards the house along several lanes. Players place plants that generate sun energy, fire projectiles or block attacks. Every plant requires sun points. If you focus only on attack and neglect your supply, you quickly come under pressure from later waves.

Enemies and the environment change as you progress. The basic principle always remains spatial planning: an effective garden makes the best use of its lanes, the range of individual plants and the scarce resources.

Co-op and versus on one screen

Two people can defend the garden together in local co-op. In local versus, they face each other: one side controls the plants, the other attacks with zombies. Both modes expand the campaign, which is otherwise single-player only.

On Switch 2, GameShare allows shared matches via local or supported online connections. Nintendo's additional requirements apply to online GameShare.

Cloudy Day and Rest In Peace

In Cloudy Day mode, the available sun energy is limited. This shifts the focus to choosing cheap plants and managing a lack of resources.

Rest In Peace adds a permadeath rule to the adventure: a defeat ends the attempt. For experienced players, this creates two challenges that are clearly different from the regular campaign.

The remaster includes the classic minigames, including Wall-Nut Bowling, plus bonus levels. Via the Tree of Wisdom, you can unlock various visual settings and activate them individually.

Game series

Replanted returns to the classic lane-based tower defense of the first Plants vs. Zombies. It is neither a sequel to Plants vs. Zombies 2 nor a shooter like Garden Warfare.

PopCap Games and The Lost Pixels developed the remaster, and Electronic Arts published it. New modes and the reworked visuals build on the original's structure, but do not replace it.
