What is Pokémon GO?
Pokémon GO is a location-based mobile game that connects the Pokémon series with real-world movement and location data. Players discover Pokémon on a map of their surroundings, catch them on the go and grow their collection through a continuously running live service system.
The game launched in 2016 under Niantic. Since the acquisition of Niantic's games business was completed on May 29, 2025, Pokémon GO has belonged to Scopely's portfolio. The former Niantic game team now continues to work within Scopely as Scopely Explore.

Gameplay
The core game combines movement in the real world with collecting Pokémon. Pokémon that appear nearby can be caught, while PokéStops provide items and Gyms open access to further activities. Long-term play includes raids, research tasks, trainer battles and recurring events, among others.
With Party Play, up to four trainers can play together, complete group tasks and benefit from Party Power in raids. Pokémon GO is thus geared towards both solo exploration and community activities and real-world meeting points.
