What is Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an action RPG by Game Freak, set entirely in Illumina City. The metropolis is being redeveloped as part of an urban planning project into a place where people and Pokémon live together.
The focus is on exploring the city, encounters with wild Pokémon, battles and Mega Evolution. The game builds on the Pokémon Legends series but moves the adventure into a dense urban setting.

Release
Pokémon Legends: Z-A was released on Oct 16, 2025 for Nintendo Switch and as a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The Mega Dimension expansion followed with its additional story content on Dec 10, 2025.
On Oct 29, 2026, a physical Nintendo Switch 2 complete edition will also be released, containing the base game and Mega Dimension together on one game card.

Platforms
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is available for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 Edition uses the more powerful hardware for higher image quality and smoother display.
The Switch 2 Edition can also be started on an original Nintendo Switch; however, the Switch 2-specific improvements are not available there.

Gameplay
The adventure combines exploring Illumina City with a reworked battle system in which trainers and Pokémon actively move during fights. A central role is played by Mega Evolution, which temporarily transforms certain Pokémon into especially powerful forms during a battle.
In the Z-A Battle Club, trainers compete against each other in rank battles. At the same time, city districts, wild zones and the ongoing urban redevelopment form the backdrop for exploration and Pokémon encounters.

DLCs and expansions
The Mega Dimension expansion picks up after the main story is completed. Spatial distortions open access to Hyperspace Lumiose; there, additional story content and further Mega Evolutions await.
To play the DLC story, the main story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A must be completed. Mega Dimension uses the same save file as the base game.

Switch 2 complete edition with Mega Dimension
From Oct 29, 2026, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be offered as a new physical Nintendo Switch 2 Edition together with Mega Dimension. According to The Pokémon Company, the base game and DLC are together on one game card; no separate purchase or additional DLC code is needed for the expansion.
The content matches the separately purchased Switch 2 Edition plus Mega Dimension. Buyers of the bundle also receive a series code for 100 Ultra Balls.
