What is POSTAL: Brain Damaged?

POSTAL: Brain Damaged is a fast single-player shooter in a retro style. The POSTAL Dude crosses nightmarish locations from his own mind. Unlike the open worlds of other POSTAL games, the focus is on hand-built levels, intense firefights, absurd enemies and crude satire.

Gameplay

POSTAL: Brain Damaged combines fast movement with precise shootouts and challenging enemy groups. Anyone who hides in one spot barely makes use of the large combat arenas. You switch weapons, dodge and explore the hand-built levels for hidden paths and items.

History and locations

The POSTAL Dude wakes up in an asylum, where the inmates are turned into dangerous enemies by questionable medication. His escape leads through increasingly grotesque scenes from his own mind. The story relies on black humor, exaggeration and unreliable perception rather than realistic locations.

Movement and level design

Quick changes of direction and constant movement define the fights. The controls are based on classic arena shooters. Many rooms offer ways to circle enemies and avoid attacks while on the move.

Branching paths and secrets also give exploration a firm place in the gameplay.

Weapons and tools

The arsenal consists of deliberately exaggerated firearms, plus power-ups and unusual tools. Different enemy groups require different distances and switching equipment during combat.

Enemies and bosses

Bizarre enemies and special boss fights await in the levels. Their forms and attacks match the distorted mind of the POSTAL Dude. Quick reactions, using the room to move and switching weapons at the right moment are key.

Game series

POSTAL: Brain Damaged is part of Running With Scissors' POSTAL series, but deliberately uses classic, clearly defined shooter levels. Hyperstrange and CreativeForge Games developed the game. Running With Scissors and Hyperstrange publish it.

The series' crude humor remains, but the open sandbox of earlier entries has been replaced by a faster action focus.
