What is Putty World 35th Anniversary?

Putty World 35th Anniversary is a new sequel to System 3's classic Putty series. The game combines characters and elements from Putty, Super Putty and Putty Squad, but builds them into a new adventure with new worlds, enemies and modern technology.

System 3 explicitly does not describe the project as a remake or reboot. The central idea is rather: how would Putty have felt if the Nintendo Switch 2 had already existed in the 1990s?

Platforms

Currently, only the Nintendo Switch 2 is confirmed as a native platform. System 3 deliberately does not offer a Switch 1 version, because the high number of animations, rebuilt characters and more detailed graphics would, according to CEO Mark Cale, lead to serious compromises.

Gameplay

Putty remains an elastic blue blob, whose body is itself the most important tool. He can stretch, inflate, melt, absorb enemies, punch, jump on enemies and transform. Stretching is not only an attack, but also a way to reach higher levels or hidden paths.

The levels are not built as simple left-to-right runs. You search multiple layers for captured babies, collect them and take them to a drop-off point. Only once the rescue task is complete does the path to the stage boss open, and then the exit.

75+ new maps, 45+ new enemies and classic content

System 3 names more than 75 new maps and over 45 new enemy types for the new campaign. In addition, all classic enemies are set to return. Progress through the new stages will also unlock content from the older Putty games.

Planned features include world bosses, a challenge mode and a sticker book as additional collection and progression systems. Old and new content will not be treated as a separate museum collection, but linked together within the new game.

60 fps and completely rebuilt animations

System 3 targets a stable 60 fps. Characters and enemies are remodelled in 3ds Max and then rendered as high-resolution 2D animations. Backgrounds, effects and existing enemy graphics are also being newly created.

Putty himself gets more than 50 different facial expressions. Movements react to stress, hits, surprises and moments of success. The studio is also working on a voice or spoken language for the character.

Game series

The first Putty came out on the Amiga in 1992 and was later released as Super Putty, among other versions. Putty Squad then developed the concept further. Putty World 35th Anniversary now brings these lines together as a new game, rather than simply re-releasing a single older version.
