R-Type Final 2

R-Type Final 2 is a side-scrolling science fiction shooter from Granzella. You pilot an R-Fighter through dangerous regions of space and face the Bydo Empire.

The successor to the classic R-Type games combines precise shootouts and the familiar Force Module with three-dimensionally designed backgrounds and a large selection of unlockable ships.

R-Type Final 2 was released on April 29, 2021 in Japan and on April 30, 2021 in Europe. Releases include PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Granzella developed the game, and NIS America published the Western PC version, among others. Additional ships and further stages came later as expansions and free additions.

R-Type Final 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version is offered through Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store.

The original PS4 version is not the same as a separate PS5 release. R-Type Final 3 Evolved is also a separate game for PS5.

Your ship moves on a horizontal plane, while enemies, projectiles and obstacles attack from different directions. Success requires precise positioning, recognising attack patterns and smart use of your own weapons.

Many sections end with a boss fight. Different R-Fighters let you tackle difficult routes with other weapons and manoeuvres.

Several DLC sets add homage stages from older parts of the series to R-Type Final 2. The Stage Passes each bundle several of these routes.

There are also additional R-Fighters, training packs, and music and artbook content. Some ships are offered for free, while others belong to paid expansions.

For the PC version, Steam lists minimum requirements of a dual-core processor at 3.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM, a GTX 950 or Radeon R9 280 and 10 GB of storage. Recommended are a quad-core processor, 8 GB RAM and a GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580.

The game requires DirectX 11 and a 64-bit system. Using the Steam client now requires Windows 10 or later.

R-Type Final 2 offers more than 100 controllable R-Fighters. As you progress, more models can be developed and used in new missions.

Each ship type has its own properties and weapons. The choice of R-Fighter therefore affects how you deal with tight passages, enemy waves and end bosses.

The Force Module is a nearly indestructible companion to your R-Fighter. You can attach it to the ship or send it forward to attack enemies and shield dangerous areas.

The position of the module changes the angle and range of certain attacks. This interplay remains a core feature of the R-Type series.

The Wave Cannon lets your R-Fighter charge a particularly powerful shot. This powerful weapon complements the regular shots and the attacks of the Force Module.

Depending on the ship you choose, different combinations of offensive power and defensive options open up. Against large enemies in particular, the right timing is often what decides it.

The campaign takes you through abandoned space cities, occupied facilities, crystal fields, cave systems and other areas marked by the Bydo Empire. Each stage changes the enemy formation, background and obstacles.

Later updates added extra sections to the base game. More homage stages are available separately as additional content.

R-Type Final 2 is aimed at both newcomers and experienced shooter players. Different difficulty levels let you adjust the challenge to your own experience.

A Boss Rush mode, added later, lines up end bosses one after another. With installed expansions, enemies from additional stages can also appear.

With unlockable customisation options, you can change the look of your R-Fighters and add your own markings. Different models also bring new weapon options at the same time.

Additional ships were added during development, including models with unusual characteristics and transformation mechanics.

R-Type Final 2 is designed as a single-player shooter. Alongside playing through the stages, the title offers challenges for experienced pilots and boss battles added later in the series.

On Steam, achievements and cloud saves are among the supported features.

The PC version offers German on-screen text and subtitles. English and Japanese voice audio are also available. In total, Steam lists nine supported on-screen languages.

The PC version partially supports controllers. Mouse and keyboard remain available as additional input options.
