What is Rainbow Six Mobile?

Rainbow Six Mobile is a version of the tactical online shooter from Ubisoft's Rainbow Six series, developed for smartphones. In matches with five players per team, attackers and defenders face each other. They use specialised operators, surveillance drones, destructible structures and different gadgets to attack or hold objectives.

The free-to-play title was developed by Ubisoft Montreal with other Ubisoft studios. Although many mechanics and maps are familiar from Rainbow Six Siege, it is a separate mobile game with adapted touch controls, game modes and content development.

Platforms

The two native releases of Rainbow Six Mobile are aimed at Android smartphones and iPhones or iOS devices. Ubisoft adapted the game specifically for touch controls and different device performance. It is not the PC, PlayStation or Xbox edition of Rainbow Six Siege.

The store versions are separate mobile products. Playing on a PC through third-party software would not prove a released native PC version.

Gameplay

In the main modes, defenders prepare rooms with barricades, traps and surveillance. Attackers use drones to search for enemies and objectives, open routes and try to use their gadgets and weapons together as a team. Walls, ceilings or floors can be broken through at suitable points, which changes routes and lines of sight.

The switching attacker and defender roles call for different tactics: intel, operator abilities and positioning are at least as important as fast aiming. The mobile version carries this structure over to shorter matches that are played by touch.

Bomb mode, ranked play and training options

The permanent game modes include Bomb, the faster-round mode Bomb Rush, and Team Deathmatch. There are also ranked matches, quick matchmaking and private lobbies. A tutorial explains basic gameplay and operator roles.

Private lobbies let you set teams, maps and game settings. A practice mode lets you explore maps without the usual round time pressure. These systems are part of the longer-term mobile game structure and not just features of a time-limited event.

Specialised operators and gadgets

For its worldwide launch, Ubisoft named more than 20 playable operators, including Ash, Mute and Dokkaebi. Each brings their own equipment and a special ability. Attackers and defenders fill different roles, such as recon, breaching, healing or area control.

The global launch phase included the operator Deimos, who can track a specific enemy with his DeathMARK tracker. The system of fixed special abilities and team combinations sets Rainbow Six Mobile apart from a pure weapons shooter with no role selection.

Familiar locations and original mobile maps

The maps highlighted for the global launch include Bank, Border, Clubhouse, Oregon and Villa, which are known from Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft also added its own locations such as Restaurant and Summit, which were designed specifically for the mobile version.

The maps are designed around observation, breakthroughs and holding defended areas. A mobile version of the same map is not automatically identical to its large PC or console version.

Five vs five – as an online service

Rainbow Six Mobile is built around online matches between two teams of five players each. Combining operators with complementary gadgets, scouting before a push, and communication while defending form the core of team play.

A full offline campaign mode has not been announced as a core offering. With the planned end of the service in 2027, the continued availability of the multiplayer features is therefore affected. Ubisoft has not yet detailed which app features could remain accessible after the shutdown.

The announced shutdown in 2027

The online services of Rainbow Six Mobile end on Jan 15, 2027. Ubisoft announced the shutdown on Oct 8, 2026. At that point, another season was still planned.

A permanently playable offline version has not been announced. The shutdown does not affect Rainbow Six Siege on PC and consoles.

Game series

Ubisoft Montreal led development of the mobile spin-off with support from other Ubisoft teams. The title took over the principles of Rainbow Six Siege, including specialised operators, intel advantage, destructible cover and the attacker versus defender roles, but developed its own touch interface and original content.

According to the current official statement, the planned shutdown affects Rainbow Six Mobile, not all other games in the Rainbow Six series. The mobile game's identity and its own product history therefore remain separate from Rainbow Six Siege.
