Ravenswatch: Merlin

Ravenswatch: Merlin expands the action roguelike with a playable mage from Arthurian legend. He has nine spells from three schools of magic, plus special abilities for battles against the nightmares.

The extra content requires the main game Ravenswatch and adds to its existing hero roster.

Released on Jan 19, 2026 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch version followed on Jan 28, 2026.

Merlin requires the main game Ravenswatch. A standalone Switch 2 version of the extra content has not been confirmed.

The Merlin extra content released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. To play the new hero, you need the matching main game Ravenswatch on the same system.

Merlin can be used in both the single-player and online co-op modes of the main game. The package does not include a separate campaign.

Merlin chooses his spells from nine abilities. Besides attacks, he can protect and heal himself and his group, and teleport out of dangerous situations. Which abilities he uses affects the mage's role in every run.

Talents are added with every level and further change his magic. This lets him develop as an offensive, defensive or supporting hero.

Merlin adds a playable hero with his own abilities, dialogue and memories. This includes four ultimate abilities, 26 unlockable talents and various costumes.

The free expansion for Ravenswatch released at the same time brought new magic items. It is not tied to buying Merlin.

The PC version requires at least 8 GB RAM, an Intel Core i5-4670K or AMD FX-8350, and 3 GB of free storage. For the graphics card, Steam lists a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon RX 470, each with 2 GB of memory. Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 12 are required.

For the processor, Steam recommends a Core i7-6700K or Ryzen 5 1500X, plus a GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 Fury.

Merlin wakes after a long captivity without his gift of prophecy. The Lady of the Lake had put the mage into a magical sleep. After he awakens, he joins the Ravenswatch to fight the nightmares.

New memory pages and conversations with other heroes give insight into his past. The story unfolds within the main game.

Nature magic gives Merlin three different spells. He can summon dense thorn bushes, let stars rain down on enemies or raise a stone shield whose effect also hits foes.

These abilities combine attack and protection. This lets Merlin keep enemy groups at a distance or create a defensive position.

Arcane magic adds lightning strikes, fireballs and a homing frost orb to Merlin's repertoire. The mage can hit enemies from a distance and spread attacks in different ways.

Which spells he chooses affects how he handles single strong enemies and larger groups. The arcane magic can be combined with his nature and light abilities.

Merlin's light spells can heal himself and allies. Other abilities blind enemies or allow escape through teleportation.

Especially in co-op, these spells give him a supporting role. Depending on the combination, Merlin helps the group survive, controls threats or uses his other spells for attacks.

During battles, Merlin generates power runes that boost his spells. This special resource links his abilities and opens up additional combinations.

Players who link rune use with matching attacks or defensive actions can play to his strengths more precisely. This sets Merlin apart from heroes who mainly fight with fixed single actions.

Merlin has 26 unlockable talents and four ultimate abilities. They expand his nine spells and change how the schools of magic can be combined.

Which talents he gets during a run affects how he plays. A defensive Merlin uses different combinations than a mage who mainly attacks enemies.

Merlin can be played solo or in online co-op in Ravenswatch. Up to four players fight the nightmares together. His light magic also lets him heal allies.

With nature and arcane spells, Merlin can also control groups of enemies. The expansion does not add its own multiplayer mode.

Seven voiced memory pages shed light on Merlin's past. The expansion also adds dialogue with other heroes and several costumes.

Four outfits can be unlocked in the game. Three more premium outfits are also part of the extra content. They change how Merlin looks, not how his spells work.

Ravenswatch offers German menus and German subtitles on PC. The characters speak English. The game also supports French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese text, among others.
