What is Ravenswatch?

Ravenswatch is a dark top-down action roguelike. Instead of working through a linear campaign with a fixed character, you take on heroes from fairy tales and myths and face the nightmares of Reverie in replayable runs. Figures such as Little Red Riding Hood, Sun Wukong, the Snow Queen or Beowulf are not simply used as costumes: each brings its own combat logic and different build possibilities.

The game is developed by Passtech Games and published by Nacon. Following Curse of the Dead Gods, the studio again relies on demanding real-time combat and combines it here with a selection of legendary figures. The game can be played solo or online co-op with up to four people.

Platforms

Native versions are available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. A separate Switch 2 version has been announced, but does not yet have an exact release date. The individual console generations are not treated as equivalent because of backward compatibility.

Ravenswatch offers single-player and online co-op for up to four people. In co-op, group members build up their characters in parallel; complementary hero abilities can shape shared runs differently than solo runs. Local couch co-op is not listed as a standard mode in the cited stores.

Gameplay

A run takes place in one of three areas, whose themes come from enchanted forests, One Thousand and One Nights and the Arthurian legends, among others. The maps vary, and a cycle of three days and nights sets a time limit for exploration, fights and preparation for the chapter boss. Players who pursue side activities must therefore weigh which upgrades can still be reached before the decisive battle.

Characters have different attack, special and defence actions. Level-ups unlock talent choices, items change damage or protection options, and combinations create new builds. The developer lists over 200 talents, more than 50 magic items, four difficulty levels and customisable game modes. The long-term structure relies on unlocking new options rather than an always identical sequence.

DLCs and expansions

After the full release, Ravenswatch has been expanded with new heroes, cosmetic packs and free system updates. The additional playable characters include Merlin and Romeo & Juliet. Cosmetic skin packs, by contrast, mainly change how the characters look and are not comparable to new campaigns.

On Oct 12, 2026, the paid Kintarō Hero DLC adds the Japanese legendary hero and his bear Kuma to the game. The hero switches between riding form and fighting alongside the bear. The accompanying free update reworks more than 50 talents and introduces customisable multiplayer lobbies. As a result, the choice of heroes and co-op play changes in the long term; individual balance values do not belong in the permanent game description.

Online co-op and custom lobbies

Online co-op supports up to four players. Alongside shared character building, the game offers matchmaking. The free update in October 2026 adds custom lobbies, so the desired number of players can be set more precisely when searching for a group. A connection indicator makes it easier to judge latency within the group.

The individual development of the heroes is retained in co-op: a group must decide how their abilities complement each other, rather than managing a shared talent tree.

Planned Nintendo Switch 2 edition

Passtech Games plans a standalone Switch 2 version for 2026. According to the official developer information, it is set to run at 60 frames per second, in Full HD in both TV and handheld mode, with improved textures. Owners of the Nintendo Switch version are to receive a free upgrade pack.

A fixed date and a native Switch 2 store version that is already available have not been confirmed yet. This announcement must be distinguished from the mere backward compatibility of the previous Switch version.

Game series

Passtech Games does not use a single closed fairy tale as its source, but brings together figures from different traditions. Little Red Riding Hood, Sun Wukong and the Snow Queen therefore meet within the same fantasy game world. The dark comic style creates a shared visual language.

Ravenswatch is not a sequel to Curse of the Dead Gods, but shares with the earlier Passtech game a focus on direct, demanding combat and replayable runs. Nacon acts as publisher.
