What is Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma?

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma combines an action RPG with farming, village building and relationships. You choose one of two main characters and travel to the land of Azuma, which has been devastated by a catastrophe. As an Earth Dancer, you help bring back the lost power of the nature gods.

Unlike a pure farming sim, the day doesn't end in the field. Between rebuilding villages, you explore new areas, fight monsters and find companions who also support you on adventures.

Build and run four villages

You build structures, plant fields and bring residents back to the villages of Azuma. Instead of a single farm, you look after several settlements. New buildings create jobs and supply you with resources for further construction projects.

Residents can help with recurring tasks. As a village develops, extra plots and options appear for customising the settlement to your liking.

Dance and sacred treasures

As an Earth Dancer, you use the powers of sacred treasures to free fields, people and landscapes from the blight. These special abilities play a role in both combat and rebuilding.

Weapons include bows and talismans. The equipment and companions you choose change your options for exploring and fighting.

Friendships, festivals and romances

In Azuma, you can build relationships with the residents and get to know possible partners better. Conversations and shared stories add to the work in the villages.

Some acquaintances join you in battle as companions or help manage the settlements. The villages also hold festivals that match the seasonal theme of each season.

Villages with their own seasonal theme

The regions of Azuma differ in their landscapes, festivals and seasonal design. This affects the atmosphere of the settlements and how they are rebuilt. New building plots give you more space for buildings and decorations.

Even after the main story, managing your villages remains an important part of the game.

Game series

Guardians of Azuma takes the well-known mix of role-playing and life simulation to a new area inspired by Japanese culture. You don't need any knowledge of earlier Rune Factory games. The story centres on its own conflict: the blight threatens the villages after the nature gods have lost their power.

Well-known series staples such as farming, combat, festivals and relationships remain. Building and managing whole settlements gets more room this time.
