What is Rust Console Edition?
Rust Console Edition brings the open survival sandbox of Rust to consoles, but technically it is not a simple PC port. Double Eleven describes the version as a standalone console version with its own codebase, its own optimizations and a separate update roadmap.
It is built around the same unforgiving core idea: gather resources, craft tools and gear, expand a shelter into a fortified base and survive in a world populated by other players. Cooperation, trading, raids and defence arise from the decisions players make, rather than from a linear campaign.

Release
The original console version launched in 2021 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On June 26, 2025, native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S followed. Double Eleven presented these New Gen versions as optimized for the current console generation; owners of the older console version received an upgrade path to the respective new platform.
The console line is developed independently of the PC version. New content and technical changes are therefore not necessarily adopted from the PC version at the same time or in identical form.

Platforms
Rust Console Edition first launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Since 2025, standalone native versions have existed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The current official FAQ lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms.
The PC version of Rust is a separate product with its own development line. If you switch between PC and console, do not assume that features, roadmap or server ecosystem are identical.

Gameplay
The core loop combines exploration, resource gathering, crafting and freely planned base building with constant risk from the environment, AI threats and other players. A good base protects loot and production chains, but it is also a visible target for raids. Progress therefore comes not only from better gear, but also from map knowledge, resource management, alliances and the ability to plan for losses.
Double Eleven is gradually expanding the console version. Systems that are now established include Tech Trees, larger maps, additional building options and further movement and survival mechanics.

Community servers
Alongside official servers, Rust Console Edition supports servers run by the community. Operators can adjust many rules, including PvP or PvE focus, gather rates, team sizes, decay, map and monument settings, and access and moderation rights. This ranges from classic survival servers to more regulated or beginner-friendly variants.
Community servers are run by external hosting providers and have their own admin and moderation tools. This makes them a lasting part of the console ecosystem, not just a time-limited event feature.

Public Test Branch
The Public Test Branch (PTB) is used to test upcoming features and technical changes before they go live on the live servers. Since September 2026 it has been open to all owners of Rust Console Edition. At the same time, Double Eleven switched from a permanently open test environment to targeted test windows, so new systems can be checked with a focused player count.

Server wipes and progress
On the official monthly servers, regular wipes are a fixed part of the gameplay rhythm. Double Eleven sets them for the last Thursday of every month at 6:00 PM UTC. A wipe resets the server state, creating equal starting conditions again for new bases, resource routes and power balances.

Game series
Rust Console Edition is based on the Rust idea created by Facepunch, but Double Eleven develops and publishes it as a standalone console version. The teams work under different technical conditions and roadmaps. The console version is therefore part of the same brand, but not a mirror of the PC version.
